When I was young Stephen Kings 'It' scared the living daylights out of me.
Nowadays what gets me is demonic children, Damian in the Omen kind of thing.
But I think that even though it isnt particularly scarey, The Wicker Man is the most unnerving film Ive seen. Doesnt make you jump or anything like that but by the time it has finished you definitely feel creeped out, the ending is gruesome. |

''Tale of Two Sisters'' is the best horror film I have ever seen.
Because it's alot more about the plot than the scare factor, the film becomes less scary as it progresses but it also ends up making it just a really great film.
and its korean so I'm a little shocked nobody has mentioned it yet.
[rec] is just brilliant. I was so impressed by that film. |

I'd have to say Juon/The Grudge was the scariest movie for me. I actually screamed (a manly scream, more like a yelp) at some of the scenes.
Prince of Darkness is seconded for being a cheesily scary flick. |

The shining, the exorsist, and the blair witch project are probably the scariest movies I've seen. I love ghost movies but I hate gore. I didn't see Dark Water or The Eye in the Hollywood version- but based on my enjoyment the asian version is probably better. I never knew what the name of the asian version of Mirror's was called, but the plot is quite different from the hollywood version and waaay better. It's Korean! I liked the hollywood version of the ring better, and I think the grudge was good both ways (but only one has sarah michelle gellar!!).
Also, you should read some of the original books. Ring was written in the early eighties (hence VHS) and the protagonist's best friend is a serial rapist! Now that was a difference that made me go "huh" a few times. The protagonist in the short story Dark Water is a germaphobic mom which makes the story much creepier, but the end isn't as good.
What Lies Benieth is also a good flick, and Harrison Ford and Michelle Fifer are married, which is what god intended anyway so it makes perfect movie sense. Sixth Sense good, House on Haunted Hill a little too slashery and not scary enough (PS, Mirrors unnecessarily theived from that one).
Oh, the asian version of shutter was pretty awsome, too. See that before you see the hollywood version. In fact, don't see the hollywood version, just write the producers and tell them to make their own damn movies. |

| A lot of people saying Blair Witch here. Dunno if it was the delirious over-hyping of it or what but it didnt push my buttons in that way. Thought it was decent and got a bit of a rush with the ending but it wasnt that scary. The best thing about that night was making my theen girlfriend walk through the woods afterwrds (she was terrified!) |

| If parts (one in particular is haunting...) of Pet Semetary don't scare the crap out of you, then I dunno. Also Children of the Corn bothered me a lot when I was younger and is still creepy... The Exorcist is still morbid. Devil's Rain from the 70's with William Shatner has some spooky oldschool shtuff, I don't think scary applies here but cool? Scanners is freaky too. The original Halloween is scary man. |

Cutting Moments. Students films. Oh man.
Far out and disturbing.
.
3 or 4 of them, like 15 mins each. Not as scary as they are weird, disturbing.
Damn you Ralph |

| Sphere (the book) was pretty cool; scary in an ominous, foreboding way. The movie was a joke though. |
