My basic Korean is sad to say the least... All I can actually say in terms of a conversation is that I'm from America and an English teacher.

I'm not overly concerned about it. I like to have somewhere I am comfortable and then I'm content to just drink a beer, eat some form of dead animal, and watch people...

Plus, it's such a strain to try and understand the other teachers and students I'm around all day, that by night time, I need a break. I'd rather go with silence than the never ending game of charades to try and understand someone at that point. My brain needs a certain amount of time away from the language barrier.

I'm glad things worked out for you. But let me ask you these questions:

- If things weren't running so smoothly at your hagwon, would you still of been happy?

- If you had nobody to speak some English with, would you still of been happy?

- If you had to go another three months without having a conversation with a native speaker, again, would you still of been happy?

Perhaps things *weren't* running smoothly at your hagwon, and perhaps you *didn't* have anyone to speak English with, but you still managed to have a good time. I don't know. However if this is the case, I think this puts you in a minority.

I spent two years in a small TOWN and hakwon where I was the only foreigner. I enjoyed nearly every minute of it. Now I'm at a place with two other foreigners and not enjoying it as much, although the different locations and management styles have a lot to do with that as well. Not that the foreigners aren't decent guys, we just don't have a lot in common.
In conclusion I think as long as you try your best and are seen as doing so, you will (9 times of out 10) have a reasonably good time at your hakwon, foreigners or not) Also as long as your boss is halfway reasonable and decent.
