I have had this happen to me 3 times while in Korea, the last time being the most serious.
I never had it happen to me in Taiwan or Japan. Only in Korea, and every job I had!

Its actually pretty serious when no matter how good a job you do, your employer takes offence at your working somewhere else. After 2 years in Korea, its possible to have nothing but a lot of sh*tty work references. They are w**kers for doing that. Its almost as annoying as their habit of siezing your original documents and not letting go of them... |

Well, yesterday was payday, and while my money was deposited into our account, my wife's wasn't. So this morning we called and were told that the boss lady was holding our money until she talked to my wife. So we made our way to the hogwan for yet another showdown. The boss wanted my wife alone, refused to talk (and pay) with me present in the meeting. Anyways, we acquiesced.
So the boss proceeded to re-hash the old story and berate my wife. This lasted for about 5 minutes before my wife had had enough and started to give some back. Everyone in the hogwan listened to their brawl for the next hour. Anyways, the boss lady was trying to persuade my wife that it would be in our best interest to keep our mouths shut about the whole affair. That telling people what had happened would reflect badly on us, 'cuz we were 'in the wrong.'  Right.
Finally she deposited the money into our account and we were on our way. |
