Cut the guy some slack. I'm not laughing at him at all. I think his innocence and 'newbie-ness' is very endearing.

Exactly. It's cute. And way better than listening to the same guys who have been here for four years drivel on about how awful everything is on repeat, even though they refuse to take the initiative to go find something else to do with their lives. God knows we get enough of that.

We love you, Ryan!

You're kidding me?

The guy is as banal as hell.

Banality is part of the appeal. Complexity frequently becomes tiresome.

Yeah, but he's not hurting anyone, is he?

To me, the bitching and moaning that goes on in Korea is even more banal. At least this guy's banality isn't overflowing with self-pity, misdirected anger and an extremely inflated sense-of-self.

Fixed.

Part of the entertainment of watching his posts is the inevitable meltdown we all know is coming. There's a reason Titanic is one of the highest grossing films of all time, and it ain't the soundtrack.

Thank God reality is diverse and not banal and static... Even if it does have its ups and downs (the downs are real and they are what people bitch about instead of ignoring it or sucking it up...) And to be fair this board is only 50% bitching it's not all-pervading (though it can seem that way...)

Well, admittedly, there's this as well. We can sort of start to see this setting in already.

It's one of those things we all know happens -- the bright eyed, bushy tailed, fresh-out-of-uni young'n hits the road to go 'see the world' in Korea. At first, it's all 'makoli!" this and 'kimchi!' that. And then the pressure starts to build. Six months later, he's a chain smoking alcoholic woman hater who spouts racist nonsense like a maniacal NYC homeless subway preacher outside the foreigner bar every weekend night, before giving up and heading to one of those very same red light 'areas' he mentioned in his wide-eyed youtube family update just five short months ago. -- but to have it documented on film will be a different matter, altogether.

I'm on the edge of my seat already.

I wasn't even talking about these forums, to be honest. Just those guys -- you know the ones -- the loners at the bar who always seem to catch you just when your friend went to the bathroom for a minute and want to tell you all about how the last 2/3/4/infinity years have been terrible because Korean people are cold, Korean food is rubbish, Korean children are monsters, Korean bosses are scam artists, etc etc etc, and then have absolutely nothing to say when you look them straight in the eye and say, "So why are you still here, again?"

I haven't really met any of those outside this site... Guess I'm just lucky... You'll meet expats in yours, mine and anyone elses home country with the same complaints though, you should see how some of the Pakkistani or Indian middle aged plus people look down on the British whilst still living there and running their businesses their whole lives...

Anyway, yeah - soo girls / guys - is he hot or not? I'm going for not in his video incarnations, and that hairdo (just my opinion) but if he was a bit drunk, cocky and wearing better duds, who knows....?

I have one of those faces. I have to be careful at bars because if I don't keep someone's company literally 100% of the time, I will end up hearing about some guy's ex girlfriend/schizophrenic mother/childhood pet who died in a tragic car accident for the next three hours.

Anyway, it's just kind of nice to see a noob who hasn't reached the psycho stage yet, I guess. He's also not yet to the pre-psycho, know-it-all, "I understand everything about Korean culture because I've lived here for three months" stage yet.

Ryan's not bad looking. I think the Canadian accent perhaps is not doing much for me though, along with the "anywhooooo".

To those of you who actually watched the entire video, you need some serious help.

I just couldn't listen to the boring monotonous dweeb after 5 seconds.

God there are some talentless creatures among us in Korea.

And by the way, just in case you're even more clueless than I think. The video was posted as a joke by asmith to see how many idiots would actually watch it and comment on how good it was.

He got you all big time.

Will you please get my name correct? I am not asmith and, in fact, I think asmith copied my username.

Not the sharpest tool in the shed are you.

On the how Hawt is Ryan question. I think he would do well with the ladies, seems like he is tallish, confident, wears a beater, young, not jaded. If he is gay I think he would do just as well with the guys.

Wednesday night seems to be his video night so tomorrow night tune into engrishteacherryan vision for an update^^
