I don't find Koreans/Thais attractive at all- yuck! My friends always tell me that Thais always look like monkeys and I think so too. All Korean girls look alike to me. I find some Filipino girls attractive especially the half cast/ mestisas (with more spanish blood) - not the fat ones but the slim, big eyed girls and their english is good. You can see lots of Filipinos in the Hollywood industry.

It's a cultural thing.

A large part of my decision of Korea over Thailand to teach in was that i just dont find Thai women attractive whatsoever. So no.

you guys get that you're dating/ crushing on an individual, not a nationality right?

VI, seems like you finally found a good woman, and I'm happy for you, but why drag her ethnicity into it?

Thanks, but that's the kicker: her ethnicity is such a HUGE part of her, in fact, the more I research the culture the less 'individual' she seems.

What the hell is everyone talking/joking about?

Lots of lovely girls/women in all countries, no? I lived in Thailand for a while, years ago. There was no straight guy I met there who didn't find quite a few Thai women attractive. You'd have to be insane. Some were fabulous. Personally I found Vietnamese just wow. Just an opinion. A lot of them were jerks though. I found both Thai and VN females better looking than Koreans on average though. Not just looks, but the approachability factor I guess. What that means, who knows. I never found Koreans as friendly, except in Shincheon maybe. Yeah, seen lots of fine K girls too, met some, learned the language a bit...I'd still go with SE Asia easily.

That's what I mean, it sounds like you're falling for the culture not the individual, but conflating the two. In my experience, nothing but hurt can come from that.

I'll start by saying I understand VI was playing off another thread.

1) Thai girls as prostitutes. It's a horrible stereotype, but one you'll have to take in stride because it pervades pretty much everywhere.

2) That "mai pen rai" attitude is one side of a coin. The humble, pleasant, congeniality of not just girls but all Thais in general is an element of "face". You get treated that way because the same is expected in return, with somewhat tolerated transgressions for being "farang". It's perfectly possible to barrel through Thailand as a tourist. If you go to work there, that changes up quite significantly. With everybody giving everyone face, you'll find that many Thai students have never failed an exam. Student-centered learning is often a very new concept. That's just "not the Thai way" (a refrain you'll become very familiar with if you work there). I worked for three years as the only foreigner in a Thai office. I love the Thai people to death when you're just chillin', but trying to get jack accomplished at my workplace pushed me to the far edge of sanity. Suffice to say, when you're working with people and no one can criticize anyone or anything, you're on a slow boat to nowhere fast. I wouldn't say Koreans are perfect, but it's more than than chance that has brought them to the position in the world they command. And, vis a vis Thai love, unless you're with a bargirl that you can bully, you WILL play the face game and tip-toe through that eggshell world.

3) Thais LOVE Thailand. You get a great deal of Koreans who don't want to be in Korea (because of putting kids through the national entrance exam, for one), but Thais (aside from economic reasons) are not typically gung-ho about leaving their country. Maybe for awhile, but the rest of the world doesn't have the previously-mentioned "mai pen rai" attitude. Well, some places do. Spain might be a good example, but you don't leave Thailand to go make money in Spain, now do you?

4) Thailand has profoundly striated layers of society. For your budget, there's a niche. Talk of sick water buffaloes and whatnot refers to the Issan bottom layer of abject poverty. That far from posits you at the top of the food chain. The Ferrari dealership at Siam Paragon isn't just for foreigners. A retirement account doesn't make you Colonel Kurz.

But Colonel Kurz is there. He's all over. In many ways, he's the worst part of Thailand.

I'll leave it at that.

I've just come back from vacation in Israel. On one day, I went on a trip to the Dead Sea. I was part of a group of 24. One other person was a moderately-attractive East Asian girl, 20s. On the coach journey back to Jerusalem, this old Israeli guy - 70s - clearly fancied his chances with her, much to my astonishment. He sat next to her and the two of them appeared to be getting along very well. She was very receptive, flirtatious, really giving the old fool the come-on with her "let's have the best sex in the Universe"-look. I was a little jealous, actually, as I regretted not striking up a conversation earlier in the day. Once I realized she was a Thai, I simply couldn't have cared less.

There's no doubt in my mind that he paid her for sex later on.

I'm not passing judgement on prostitution. What others do with their bodies is none of my business. But, even the Thais who aren't prostitutes are prostitutes, and men who sing the praises of Thailand are of automatically dubious character.
