As people keep saying - Bite the Bullet. Do it once or twice. But make sure the owner knows this will not be a regular thing. You will not do this weekly or every month. Also make sure that you are not left alone with bunch of pamplets. Make sure you have someone to talk with and to help you deal with the Koreans.

Does your school acutually need more students. It sounds like it needs more foreign teachers.

Am I to assume to that the boss does not do any favours for you. I mean helping you connect the Cable. Getting you a new fridge if needed. Or are you ignored. If you get no favours give none in return.

I also think you need to calm down a little. Hell be pissed off. Just please do not bite our heads off.

Also people before you bite dominics head off remeber he is not teaching at your school he is teaching at another school. His time is vastly different from your time. He maybe suffering.

I did it once a year for my old hagwon.

Its nothing, you walk down, flirt with the moms in Korean and give out the flyers to try to put bums on seats.

It was once a year and actually said don't worry about paying me as it was good fun so he still took me to a nice sushi resteraunt.

aparently tomorrow we have to go to the school at 1030 and go to 3 or 4 different public elementry schools to hand out flyers for the school for two hours.

I believe this is actually illegal. A hagwon cannot pass out flyers at a public school.

if it is, just stand outside the gate Rolling Eyes

That's illegal too. There is a minimum distance.

Tell him no since you are on an E-2 Visa with the stated work place as your hogwon. To be passing flyers out anywhere would be a breach of immigration law and you, as well as the school would be fined if immigration "somehow" Wink found out.

Cheers

It's amazing how many posters on this thread will get down on the knees to gratify the hogwon director's whims.

OP: it's all about BATNA: Best Alternative to Negotiated Agreeement.

In other words, if you find your job crappy, walk--if you have a better alternative.

Remember, you're teaching in a hogwon. Plenty of other jobs out there. You can always walk. Hogwons are a joke. Always will be and never for once take them seriously. However, the tough part is, is for those who don't work at hogwons and never want to go back: there you are at the sweet corporate/university/government gig and have all the kick ass perks and would like them to stay that way, even for the next year or so. And then some weird, unreasonable request gets handed down. How far do you bend over?
