The youtube video link at the bottom of that page pretty much sums Korea up.
That's what passes for comedy in this country. Speaking terrible English and throwing out random obnoxious phrases is funny here for some reason. The stupider your English is or the more you can butcher a phrase, the better the comedian you are. This same crap is on TV every night here. If you wonder why kids in this country yell out at foreigners all the time, this is where they learn it from.
Those idiots are such jacka$$es. |
This stuff is embarrassing. I just spent the last 8 minutes shaking my head saying, "Jesus, I am part of the education system that unleashed these idiots on the world." I am actually kind of sad my country men and women were so polite, a video of those guys getting decked for acting like idiots of the streets of New York could have been a valuable teaching tool. |
They showed a lot of people ignoring their schtick, and I'm sure they edited out many similar encounters. |

Is it just me, but has anyone else stopped reading posts by Steelrails, Oven Mitts, Captain Korea, and that PatrickinBusan guy. Their posts are so long - and so predictable in their apologist content - that I just don't bother anymore. I already know what they're going to say. Here's a typical post and their responses:
OP: Koreans need to stop spitting on the streets.
Steelrails: Koreans don't spit on the streets. But I've seen Americans spit on the streets.
Oven Mitts: Where's the handbook that says it's wrong to spit on the streets.
Patrick in Busan: Are you telling me you've never spat on the streets. Even as a kid? Yet you judge Koreans.
Captain Korea: Kimchi makes Korean spit high in protein, so Koreans can afford to spit out the rest. Western spit is lower in protein, that's why Westerners don't spit.
Soooo predictable. |

Post of the year.
It's not just you. This is what the forum has become, and I don't see how it's any better than a few years ago....... just tilting the opposite way. Every comment from anybody is immediately followed by a 700 word essay from one of these guys. Don't forget MrCrossover or whatever his name is. They'll quote a message and reply to it line by line, giving defence after defence. Like, who the f#@# cares?
You'd think some of these guys who've been here so long would move on and not worry about what some newbie says on Dave's. But they have to argue EVERYTHING!!! Everyone's feelings are WRONG!!!!!!!!!!! Every complaint has to become a personal thing against them that they MUST DEFEND at all costs.
Normal poster- comes to Korea, posts on Dave's for a bit, gets a life, moves on to other things. Guys like ajgeddes, oreovictim, Tiberious AKA Sparkles come to mind. You see them post once in a while these days, but that's it.
Not normal poster- spends every freakin' day on here just looking for something to argue. And when they find an argument they go on, and on, and on, and on. Quoting, dissecting every line, pushing their opinion on everyone else...... with their obnoxious bully personalities.
Yeah, it's not just you, but you probably already knew that.
BTW, isn't PatrickinBusan Homer? Thought so.
There's my essay! |

Sorry I meant 'Urban Myth'. Don't know why his name stuck in my mind as 'Oven Mitts'. Weird....In hindsight, though, I suppose he does have a certain domestic charm that is all his own. |

There are definitely posters that answer in the ways you describe, but I disagree a bit with your list. Steelrails leans towards the apologist side, but he is rather fair and his points are mostly reasonable. Also, your Captain Korea impression is way off. |

| Netizen Joe, you are right on the money. Oh, and that Captain Korea comic book avatar is so wimpy. It's like the dude looks like a metrosexual super hero. Even Howard the Duck(from the crappy 1986 movie) would have wiped the floor with that dude. I wonder what his powers are? Perhaps placing advertisements in New York newspapers and telling westerners that Korean food is too spicy. LOL |

You forgot-
komerican: Korean men's spit is being unfairly portrayed by Western men's spit.
madoka: My spit earns $120,000 a year.
But yes our points are often repetitive:
1)(Yours Truly)Is this unique to Korea? It probably is not. Therefore its not something that happens because they are Korean. Admittedly its kind of bad for discourse if someone has to qualify every statement, but it probably should be done in an OP 'blast'.
2)(BusanPat)Is this something you do yourself? If it is, you probably shouldn't blast people for doing it as well.
3)(Oven Mitts)Who appointed you the mighty beacon of culture and handed you the scepter of truth and wisdom. So what, the Koreans should just follow every bit of advice you give? They should boot out LMB and put you in the Blue House?
4)(Kapitan Korea) There are factors such as history, diet, etc. (all that book-learnin) stuff to consider before you pass judgment.
5)(Komerican) We all have our own prejudices and sometimes your prejudices are evident in what you post.
6)(madoka) Grow up and be a big boy and stop whining. This is a job and rel life. Things aren't handed to you on a silver platter.
Look we get it, there are parts of this place that suck. As someone who has gone through the hater phase (before I even came here!) I'm just saying that getting angry and judgmental is not the way to deal with it.
Go and be positive. Take people one at a time, don't judge the group. Instead of focusing on what's wrong, focus on what's right. Just find ways to be nice to people.
Realize that even if everything you say is right, how are things going to change? You can only get angry over that which you have control.
As I say over and over: Congratulations, you are smarter than every single Korean and are always right. Now What?

Just you...socks don't count.
As a side note, didn't your mommy tell you it wasn't nice to lie about other people?
Now go sit in a chair in the corner until you can play nicely with the other kids in the sandbox. |
