One night my girlfriend and I went out to buy some snacks for a friend's party (this was about 20:30). Pretty safe area according to our standards.

Next moment, three guys jump out and grab her bag. I held on to it, but out of the corner of my eye saw a guy pointing to something (he was actually polite enough to alert me). BAM. Pistol. So I let go...

Very scary. Biggest worry was not about anything material, but about my girlfriend getting raped.

Never again.

You should not overly worry about it. Also, don't always believe what you see on da tube... Laughing

Good luck man!

>. If you're referring to the nation's stability, don't let anyone kid you: the place has been utterly rocked by Roh's impeachment.

With close to 73% of Koreans polled expressing dismay & anger toward the National Congress's recent coup, the country is currently experiencing an unprecedented constitutional crisis.

If i was you i'd sit tight a little while & wait to see whether things resolve themselves.

I wonder what the North's beloved Kim Jong Ill is thinking ???

Yep, no need to worry about a civil uprising or whatever, today everyone is back at work and business as usual.

Did you see the report on the news that they sold a lot more alcohol on Friday compared to average Fridays? Smile

I wouldn't say Korea is safe per se, but that it is typically only dangerous based on your own choices. For example:

You can walk down the street alone at night looking well-off/wearing nice clothing and don't have to worry about getting jacked/beaten/ripped-off. However, if you are bold and like to cross busy intersections thinking that drivers will stop like they do back home, OR, you ride in taxis without safety belts...you lower your safety chances....

Wow I can't believe so many people replied. Thank you everyone.
I feel so much more comfortable now. South Africa sounds really scary. I don't think I'll go there just yet. Very Happy
26 hours to go.
