There was a public holiday during the World Cup for some sort of governmental elections - I think it was Thursday 13th June, 2002, the day of the Brazil v Costa Rica game.
It saved me from taking one of my holiday days to get to the game |
Hey I was at that game too. I sat right in the middle of the Costa Rica supporter's section. The two fat Costa Rican dudes in front of us had huge hats and drums. Good times.
I'm on the other side of the fence for the holiday this time round since I'm not teaching but I am studying. Damn election! I PAID for that class!! |

This comes around every 2 & a half years. National election days are declared 'temporary national holidays' which seems to give hakwons some discretion as to whether you will work or not. (Likewise during World Cup.)
Last time this happened there was much discussion on here & maybe half the hakwons closed & half didnt. Not much recourse if youre told to come in. Public schools definitely close because they are polling places & a lot of teachers serve monitoring duties. |

Hey I was at the game too!!! On the 18 yard line opposite the teams near the Brazilian fans. A member of the the US fans had an extra ticket and gave it to me for helping him get train tickets. What a group!!!!!
That holiday meant we had to give finals during the US-Korea game (of course I wasn't there, I was at US-Korea, had somebody else gave my finals that day) |
