you should be able to safely update the homebrew channel.

as an aside, i updated usb loader after having some compatibility issues with a new hard drive. that fixed the issues, but it's a little wonky now. a lot of the features are locked and the game art doesn't show up. i'm ok with it until new games start not working though.

be careful with what external hard drive you buy to use with the wii. they dont all work. there's a compatibility list somewhere if you search.

I believe the primary potential trap there is Seagate. Any of the other big names work fine, and the majority of external drives here have WDs in side.

On a side note, I never much liked USB Loader - It gave me a lot of black screens on games that it would load fine on other occasions. Don't know if that's still an issue, but I shifted over to Neogamma ages ago. It's not as shiny in terms of the UI, but it's been much more dependable for me.

Are you using USB Loader GX? The reason why things might be showing up as locked is you need to go into options each time the program loads, go to Parental Control or Parental Lock or something like that and unlock it.

This is a misinformed post.

The Seagate Freeagent Go is probably the best external HD for USB Loading. Seagate is also the only brand to have software which can permanently eliminate spindown issues via your computer's OS. With WD drives, if you're having spin down problems, you're gonna need to open your drive up. WD drives are certainly good, but I'd much rather go with the drive I mentioned earlier.

And yes, compatibility with USB Loader is almost a non-issue now. The key is to get your wiisos from a reliable source.

Hmm, appears your right. Maybe things changed, but about 9 months ago when I was researching I though Seagates didn't work.

Here's the list of compatible drives anyway. http://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/index.php?title=USB_Devices_Compatibility_List

+1

For all Wii softmodding needs, stick with gbatemp and wiihacks.

Wicked, I have a spare Seagate FreeAgent Go 160GB just sitting here collecting dust. Is 160GB enough space?

Do you use torrents or Happy Freaks thread to get your games? I'm downloading a game now from Happy Freak and it says it will take almost two days to complete the download. Is this normal?

160 GB is plenty as long as you're only going after "good" games. The Wii's library of 3-5 star games isn't that big so I think you'll be ok.

I'm using a 160 gig. I'm not even half full and I have pretty much every game I'd ever want to play on there. Haven't even tried half of them.

Went on Saturday and had usb loader installed and it works like a dream. I only have 6 games on my harddrive at the moment but looking for more. Any recommendations?

I currently have:
Mario Galaxy
New Super Mario Bros.
Boom Blox Party
M&S Winter Olympics
Warioware
Marasume: Demon Blade

Have on disc but haven't transfered to the harddrive:
Zelda: Twilight
Mario Kart
SSBB
M&S Summer Olympics
Mario Strikers/Sluggers

Any other games you recommend that work on usbloader?

Well, I'm currently using USB Loader GX and I have about 180 games. ALL WORK with the exception of "A Boy and His Blob" (which I would recommend), which I have to run in "Forced Pal 60" mode--so it's in black and white. However, I understand that that only seems to be the problem on Japanese Wii's (which I have).

Other games I'd recommend--Okami, Super Paper Mario, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, Resident Evil 4, and Madworld. And if you have a pretty large TV, I'd get House of the Dead: Overkill and Ghost Squad. Not because they're amazing games, it's just cool to have that arcade rail-shooter type of game in your house.

I just played through Little King's Story. It definitely deserves far more credit than it's given. A surreal, subtly disturbing storyline masked by cutesy characters and scenery. Also, it will kick your ass. I hadn't been that enraged by a video game in ages.

The guy didn't load USB Loader GX, just usb loader (don't know which version but everything has worked so far and I can change the settings before I start a game i.e. Pal/NTSC, language, ios, etc)

In the process of acquiring Paper Mario, I have it on disc but need to transfer it to harddrive. It is fun.

I'm also in the process of acquiring Little King's Story. I have heard the same thing, UnderwaterBob. People keep saying it is underrated so thought I would give it a whirl.

Other games in the process of acquiring:
Pinball Hall of Fame (Both collections)
Tatsunoko vs. Capcom

I will try the games ya'll recommended. Cheers.

most of the big ones have been mentioned, but I found BWii battalion wars 2 to be reasonably fun. and if you're interested in badminton, Deca Sports was a sports game compilation. the archery and basketball games on it were also not bad, but the rest pretty much garbage.

No More Heroes is pretty fun. The sequal just came out. Haven't got my hands on it yet though.
Sports Resort is great too, if just for the sword-fighting I assumed would be a mainstay of the system before it came out. Needs the funny little dongle.
Come on Bushido Blade Wii. Or Kengo even.
CoD WoW is actually pretty fun for a bit. The point to shoot dynamic works pretty well. Worth a couple of hours.
