Don't go to Incheon. It doesn't matter how close they say it is to Seoul, or that you can get to Seoul by subway, if you want in the city, demand it.

But be ready to wait.

I recommend public. Job security (once you actually get here...), garunteed pay, legal options for extra work/money, and housing/housing compensation.

I'm actually looking for an afterschool job now, because of the hours, but recruiters are being d1cks. I'll get a phone interview, they'll say they like my resume, ask for a photo, and never call back. I actually call back but they try to ignore my calls, pretend not to speak English, or say nothing is available all of a sudden. I'll have my Korean friend call and they aren't in the office. Rolling Eyes

Sorry, /rant

Anyways, we are here, it's possible, don't get discouraged. Recruiters may be d1cks but the actual schools and students are cool for the most part (assuming you are dealing with cool people. People in Korea [not just Koreans, I mean everyone here] can be jack@$$es regardless of your race).

I actually dont mind going to incheon but i will be firm on where i go within incheon. If I lived in Seoul, I may spend more money than I want but living in Incheon, I can go to Seoul whenever I desire.

Ill definitely get in contact with you guys once i get there

Do you have a Uni degree? if so, you can probably get hired with either epik or gepik. They'll hire you, but your placement might not be desirable.

AC wasn't wrong when he said that bros get pushed to the outside. At the gepik orientation meetings, it was pretty obvious that all the black south africans were out in the boonies. Of the 5 random SAs that I spoke with, all of them were in the sticks.

Recruiters will tell you that "seoul" area schools want white faces. Not all recruiters will tell you that, but many will. If you keep looking, you'll find a seoul area school willing to hire you.

ahaha "stick to your guns" funny saying
, I actually wanted somewhere outside of seoul , I hear the city is very influenced by western culture and while I am in Korea I want to experience more of Korea. I currently live in Gunsan and work at 3 different schools , My recruiter was not the best and did some shady stuff but for a first timer I got the majority of what I asked for .

Everything depends on your reason . As a black man in this country so far my city has been super , the people are mighty respectful and I am trying to learn the culture of how to show respect and who deserves respect.
I have a lot to say about my experience so far but the majority of advice I want to give is ...why go somewhere where you are not wanted..?.why force yourself ?, you don't have to compromise but you can always choose again. The main reason you are coming here is to teach ..first.. everything else is a bonus , would you really want to be somewhere where you don't speak the language , with people you don't think want you there in the first place .

Just my opinion and as for the rest of it with racism and the west and all that stuff just know ...."That until the philosophy that holds one race superior and another inferior is abandoned ..until the color of a mans skin is of no more significance than the color of is eye...there will be war" paraphased speech...H.I.M. Don't be fooled by the hype, you'll spend as much money in Incheon as you would in Seoul. I've lived in Incheon for a looonng time, and I used to go into Seoul once or twice a month, now I go maybe once a year...no need, Incheon is a big city with plenty to do. Guwol is nice and Bu pyoung is, too. Go for Song Do, the international district, you'll see a large mix of different people. My complex has people from France, the middle east, China, Taiwan, etc.

I used to work in recruiting, and lets face facts: a lot of schools will not want to hire black people. But many will. Search on Dave's, apply and see what happens. I know international schools have hired black, as have Min Byoung-Chul Language Schools and foreign language high schools.

45 minutes to an hour from the central part of any given major city has proven to me to have the best living areas. It's not too crowded and not too far out you couldn't go into the city for shopping. It would only be a problem to those who go to the bar every night and want to stay in the city. Otherwise, places usually close well before the last train or bus out of the city. I would stick to the southeastern part of Incheon and not along the Incheon to Gimpo train line (AREX). It's much more expensive to travel on that line.

I find that quite hard to believe. Presumably there's a lot you won't find in Incheon purely because of how close to Seoul it is, no?

You can order stuff and have it delivered. The only reason why I would go into Seoul would be to meet friends.

"How awful".

Seriously the more I hear about the US and racism the more I see they are in a politically correct madness where everyone is so afraid of eachother that they're safer just not even daring to make eye contact with someone of a different race.
Never been to the US but it appears more racially aware, paranoid and segregated than other western countries e.g western europe.

All will be well after November. The "Great Uniter" as was billed before the last election was a crock. He has done nothing but divide the US not only on racial terms, but aslo class. This is socialism...

Hahaha - are you real?

The divisions were already there. The only difference is that now you can't ignore them.
