I don't get you people who send money to a complete stranger.

MEET IN PERSON. If you live too far away then pay the extra to get the item your seeking.. otherwise you deserve what you get.

Time and time again this subject has been discussed. And people make comments about , 'oh you should contact the police'.. or , 'the bank has their information and shouldnt be difficult to get'..

NOTHING WILL HAPPEN.

Shaking my head how people will hand over money to a complete stranger brokered over an email or phone call.

No sympathy from me!!

I've said this before, there needs to be a Sticky under the B/S/T Forum where buyers post feedback on sellers. (a la eBay Feedback)
I want the honest sellers to be recognized.

BTW. Nobody "deserves" to get stolen from. I had my house locked up here in Korea and someone in broad daylight broke in and stole a bunch of cash. It was 9:30 in the MORNING!

Granted the two situations are different, but the concept is the same.

That being said...

Thanks for your well-timed and helpful comments.

Also, thanks for rehashing what has already been posted several times.

Anything new?

Anything helpful?

Constructive at all?

OMFG!!

Did you have any contact with the thief prior to him/her breaking into your home before the act took place? Did the thief let you know when he/she was going to break into your home? Did you exchange phone numbers or emails prior to the break in? So you had no idea when or where the break-in would be brokered?

No, i dont think you had any contact with the thief at all.

Same concept? please elaborate.

Think about it...... give yourself a moment of clearity before replying to this post.

Oh wait... is it the 'stranger' element?

My whole point is, you should use due diligence when exchanging money on this forum to a complete 'stranger'.

You can use common sense when brokering a deal right? Same as you would locking your doors.. u did your part in making sure your door is locked but a thief breaks into your place.. oh well.. u at least remembered to lock your doors.. hence due diligence on your behalf for LOCKING your door.

SO..

Do the same!! Make sure your 'doors are locked'.. i.e. due diligence so you dont get screwed over!.

Hey,

Maybe this was too obvious- Nobody deserves to get robbed. Even when they are careless, it's wrong to take advantage of them.

So in terms of whose fault it is, it is the fraudsters fault.

Not being careless is good advice, but maybe we should be careful not to blame the victim...

Best,
Justin

I am not saying it wasn't dumb to be a part of this. Everyone involved knows it was dumb. All you need to see that is about 10 minutes of looking over khg's posts. I am also willing to bet that not only will none of them do it again, but they will also attempt to protect others from similar (and there will be more) scams of this nature.

My point was to respond to the

comment and say that yes it was stupid but as Justin said:

Your comment when carried out to the full extent of logic, would say that punishing criminals who take advantage of the gullible (again, not saying I wasn't dumb in what I did and by the comments of the others who were scammed I would say they would probably agree, so I am agreeing with you Gideon) is not appropriate as we who where scammed somehow "deserve" to be robbed. That doesn't make sense to me.

My point is, right or wrong, your comments don't help.

Also, please understand, if you choose to escalate this and turn a B/S/T post into a commentary of philosophy, then I will bow out now and I have no desire to have another pointless debate on this forum.

Mr. Kalgukshi

one of the moderators. He is telling me that nobody else is complaining about khg, MOD EDIT Help him out by sending an account of what happened to you individually.

Thanks.

BTW if you do go to the police, my case number is 2010006932 with the Namdaemun police. Have them reference that in your report.

Can't the mods give you an IP number? I read Korea was pretty strict about online fraud and misrepresentation.

Waste of time. The IP could very well come from a pc room.

Even still, i don't think anything will get done.

I have not read anything on this board where someone caught the thief or got their money back.

There is not happy ending here. Learn and move on!! Smile

Last year a dude robbed my jacket from a bar. I figured it was my own stupid fault for being drunk and gave up on it.
Anyhoo, about a week later, I get a message to my phone saying my credit card was used for 2500 won (that's not a typo, it was a pack of smokes). That got me annoyed so (after cancelling the card) i made a report to the police.
Three days later, they had the guy. They got his picture from CCTV in the store where he used the card.

Sometimes the police here are not as incompetent as we think. Get the IP address, even if it is a PC bangh, they may have surveillance. The police will show you the picture, and may even let you post it up here. Someone might recognize the guy. It's worth investigating every avenue. This guy is probably praying you don't follow every lead. The bank account has to be worth something. THey would have CCTV footage of when he withdrew the money from the ATM or wherever. If he used Internet Banking, they got him there too.

If the police know that several people were taken in by this guy, they will do their best to catch him.

Yes. I hope they go through with trying to get this guy. It's seems like such an easy con and I really feel for the guys who got suckered (though they should have known better!).
