What would Jesus do?
So, I called the Ministry of Labour in Daejeon. Please allow me to reproduce the converstion, word by word, here:
Woman: Yoboseyo?
Me: Yoboseyo! Hi! Do you speak English?
Woman: No.
Me: Uh, okay, is there anyone there that does?
(20 second silence. BAM- she hangs up!)
What would Jesus do?
Wow, I think, I'd best get me a translator to help with this predicament! But no one in Buyeo speaks English!
After capitalising on my incredibly high IQ, I decided to head over to the 'other' hellwon in town. I walk in, and the first thing that I see is a huge picture of my personal saviour on the wall, Mr. Jesus Crust. Excellent! Christians! They'll be certain to help out a brother, no, a friend, in need!
So I speak to the Korean woman there, giving her all the details of my dilemma. I asked really nicely for her help. And what did she say?
No.
What would Jesus do? |

whoa bud, shady deal.
Listen, when I have gotten in a few binds, and my minimal language is doing nothing, alot of times I will call 1330. Its actually like a tourist info line, but they have perfect English, and they will do anything for you. I had one operator once call Labour of Relations and write down everything I needed to file a compliant against a former SOB boss for loss wages and numerous breeches of contract. She spent about 25 minutes talking to me, hung up, phoned them, talked to them for about 1/2 hour, and then phoned me back with the info. Warmed my heart. 24 hours a day, and they do everything they can to aid the forlorn foriegner. She has said that she has dealt with more complicated requests numerous time.
1330 is the number again.
Best of luck to you. I never did get my months wages myself.. |

In korea the guy who hits first is more in the wrong, but they look to see the damage done. DO NOT HIT A KOREAN.....it is really a bad idea. Can you speak to the police to explain...NO!
Do not give stupid advice..if he wants to hit you, then leave and run away....i am telling you it is not like Canada or America where you can attack someone who deserves it. You will burn for hitting him. |
lush pointed out the point... hitting first is of no concern. The person that is most injured is considered the the innocent party. I've had two run ins with the law... both times I was hit first. They had more injuries than me, so I was the one in the poo |

I had a friend in Gwang-ju tell me last year she has privates with a number of COPS & high placed public officials.
As with most countries it seems there's what's legal ... then there's what's "LEGAL". |

What a great avatar. I picked up Evil Dead 2 on DVD here for less than 5000 won. It's probably cut but I couldn't resist. |

Assholes like that should get the same punishment as *beep* wallet stealers.
I hope it gets all sorted out, though. If I was religious i would pray for you. |
Blue Flower, I just watched _O Brother Where Art Thou_ for the 1st time since it was released, and I cannot believe I forgot a line in it-its my favouirte, its funny, but as kiwiboy will attest you you do have to have some New Testament knowledge to get it in its full context.
I will adapt it for buddy b-the scene is at the beginning after the 3 of them have missed the train.
"Consider the lillies of the god-dammed field, buudy b"
I like Crois' idea better than mine. |

Okay, so my boss and his wife came to my place, doing that annoying Korean thing of incessantly ringing the bell from the get-go.
Many lies were uttered (such as: they paid for my visa run to Japan. They paid for the recruiter. I must now pay them back). I'm simplifying things here; I forgot to mention how my bosses wife tried to attack me, and the only thing that saved me from her wrath was my boss holding her back.
I'm too disgusted to focus on this now. Basically I did that Confucianism thing: sitting down without comment, nodding a lot and just basically agreeing with the vicious lies. An hour of crap, arguing, and more crap taught me real quick that this was the best option. They think that I'm going to work tomorrow; their threats failed. After this I'm packing my bags.
Here's the real kicker: they brought a S. African guy with them (so that I can relate, no doubt, yo!). In Taiwan I learnt (the hard way, as usual) that the biggest liars and backstabbers were my countrymen. It was no different with this guy. He agreed with their ridiculous false truths.
Freedom is calling folks; it's only fair for me to heed it's call! |

| Homer, the best course of action would be for buddy b to do a runner. It would be more gratifying for buddy b to tkae Crois action, or to have someone present when meeting with these jackasses, but the runner is the tried and true cours3e of action-there is no reasoning with filth such as buddy b's boss, unless its with violence |

Buddy B... I don't think you have much to lose now...2 options: hang tight and get the labor board and any other legal resource onto their asses ASAP. They'll change their tune when they realise you're not entirely without backup in this world.
Or, if you have all your stuff- they not withholding your certificates for example-, just forfeit any money owed, and get the hell out...blacklist them from one end of the web to the other.I hear Taiwan calling?
*Interesting what you say about your fellow S.African turning on you... typical I'm afraid... one of the reasons Rhodesia and S.Africa went down years ago. No sense of unity. |
