i tried it, tastes a little european in it's style, a bit Heinekin/Oranjeboom very Dutch, still a bit crap as there is more gas than there needs to be.
I have been here for 3 years, and when i first got here there was a beer called Prime (not Prime Max) and it was dark in colour, malty in flavour, and less gassy than the other beers. I really liked it (maybe a little too much) then one day it just vanished. Anyone else remember it? |
I remember Prime. I also remember when Red Rock was sometimes found in the bottle. And Hite Exfeel was pretty good and not some weird "S-line with fiber! Well-being" nonsense.
Even more of us might remember when OB wasn't OB blue. i swear it tasted better then. But yes, to qualify, it's all still crap, then and now. |

Hite D is marginally better than regular Hite, but I still think Max is better. The reason Korean beers are so bad compared to those in the west, is because they're brewed with RICE. With the exception of Max which is brewed with 50% rice, and 50% malt/hops.
In my opinion, the only drinkable Korean beer is Stout, which is also made by Hite. It's comparable to Guinness, but not quite there. |

I will say that it seems like Hite is the only one actually trying. Has OB ever attempted anything worthwhile?
I mean, other than the amazingness that is Cass Red |

Cass with lemon!
I bought some North Korean beer at the DMZ, and even THAT was better than Cass and Hite |

| Taedonggang? It's good, but I wonder how long bottles sit around. Story behind it is the brewery was entirely imported from England. |

Yes I also heard that it was transported brick by brick. Not sure if that's true or not. Sounds unbelievable though |

Tried it and I liked it. No aftertaste, as I think the name is meant to imply.
Can't find it many places near here(the one that has it charges 1400/can and seems like way too much). So I'm drinking budweiser at 1,150 a bottle. Definitely comparable to prices back home, and about as cheap as the Korean swill. Yes, budweiser is swill too, but it is swill I was raised on and you can't beat the taste of home.
Then again I can't stop myself from dropping 6,000 on a Sam Adams at the bar from time to time |

agreed.
I just tried Hite's Dry Finish and...it's not bad. Best Korean beer, in my opinion. Speaking of opinions, I was never impressed with American beer...hell I think Korean beer is much better than American beer.... For the record, American beer sucks.
I'm from Canada and Canadian beer is simply the best, I'm particularly talking about Ontario beers such as Creemore Spings, Beau's yes and even Steamwhistle...dont event get me talking about Quebec beers, St-Ambroise, Blance de Chambly and La fin du Monde....lord have mercy! Every province has it's elite beers...roger that. |

That's what one pays at a bar here for sam adams in more expensive cities (such as NYC, DC, SF), albeit a pint and not a bottle. |

If you are referring to strictly macrobrews, fair enough. If you mean all American beers, then you obviously a) have had very few of them or b) have poor judgement of beer. |

Yeah not really fair to compare Canadian microbrews to American macros. We have TONS of microbrews too. Go to beeradvocate.com and 3 San Diego breweries are listed among the best in the world - Alesmith, Ballast Point, and Stone. |

Yeah, we do have some fantastic microbrews. And some fantastically shitty macrobrews.
flying dog
red hook
smuttynose
portsmouth brewery
shipyard
and that's just from ME and NH, and the larger breweries to boot. There are TONS of delicious microbrews to be found across New England, and I'm sure tons more I've never heard of in other parts of the US.
IMHO even budweiser beats out cass and hite..... |

Of those, I've only seen/tried Red Hook on the West Coast. But that's what's great about the NA beer industry...you can go to another city and have some great beer you've never heard of. |

Sierra Nevada
Dogfish Head
Rogue
Honestly, I'm from Quebec, but beer in the USA is better when comparing micro against micro. We win hands down for macro versus macro though, bud and coors is piss. |

...and some fantastically sh1++y microbrews.
I've been to quite a few breweries in the states, minus the se(but I've had many brews from Saratoga, Atlanta, Asheville areas). Where are the best ingredients grown? The west coast. Hence, the tastier brew.
I'm not calling your NH or ME brews sh1++y, by the way.
I like shipyards brews. Flying dog (originally from Boulder, I think) and Red Hook - eh. 3Floyds in Penn is one of the best breweries on the east 'coast'.

I kind of believe cofftroll made the comment to incite some sort of nationalistic riot
The Hite D is better than almost any other K beer. I think the
black beer is still the best...uh most drinkable. |
