Have been mulling this over for a few days now and I'm going to name what I think is the best all round movie(s) as ...

drumroll.....

The Trois Colouers trilogy.

For all round, assured, confident, bold and masterful technical filmaking in every possible aspect as well as involving characters; interesting, inventive plotlines that cover the gamult of human emotion as well as being funny and witty and full of versimilitude.

I particularly like

'Red' for the plotline of the misanthrope phone snoop; 'White' for the compassionate and likeable main male character and the quirky story he's involved in and 'Blue' for the sheer emotional involvement with the main female character and her plight. All 3 for just breathtaking, heart fluttering, cinematography.

Bravo Kryslowski.

Has anyone seen Thirst? That's a good Korean vampire flick if anyone likes that.

I recently saw The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo. It was really good.

A few good ones already mentioned. I especially want to give a big tip of the hat to the Big Lebowski. That movie is just hilarious.

But, I would like to add After Hours which is like a modern day Wizzard of Oz. Fun stuff!

[quote="Hotwire"]Saw Greenberg last night.

Understated and likeable.

Nothing new, but yeah, very likeable.

I dunno maybe I just fall in love momentarily with that kind of lead female too easily. Soft, warm, giving, funny, smart not over self protected or defensive, aproachable and open to life...

Nice partial departure from Stiller's usual schtick also, nice to see him doing something a little different. A little, not a lot.

Yeah I'm a sucker for those Amercian indie films. Not on my fave films list, but I long for that kind of life;

To be at least semi affluent with a nice apt and to have creative, intelligent, warm, non precocious friends and an easy going, sensual but bright, witty, ballsy woman with a colorful personality. Someone like Annie Hall, or most all of Dianne Keaton's lead roles in Woody films, but a bit more down to earth and about 40% less neurotic and self involved...

I'm such a dreamer. No wonder I'm rarely more than the most basically content and comfortable in a life which doesn't live up to either my expectations, the lives lived in the films I like or even the very real but fleeting experiences at university and my first 2 years in Korea.

And they wonder why I drink.[/quote

You are hilarious!

El Topo
The Holy Mountain
Midnight Cowboy
8 and a half (French and Saunders do a great parody of the dancing on the beach scene)
Flesh
Trash
The Piano
Happiness
Being John Malkovich
The Big Lebowski
Withnail and I
The Shining
Taxi Driver
Magnolia

And the best of the best - Russ Meyers 'Beyond the Valley of the Supervixens' Laughing

Tommy Wiseau's masterpiece, 'The Room'. Everything else is irrelevant.

Acting at its very finest. Also, it has the greatest movie villain of all time, Chris-R.

I think I enjoyed this movie so much because I'm a big fan of the director and the lead actress. It was good, very odd (which I like), loved the ending, but there was a long drag in the middle.

Was just thinking of recent movies that I loved...

The Chaser is fantastic. Best movie I've seen this year. Anyone else seen it?

District 9, Chinjeong Omma (just for amazing acting), Kick Ass, Toy Story 3, and Harmony.

Revisited Grosse Point blank this weekend.

Debi. 'You know what you need?'

Martin. 'What?'

Debi. 'Shakabuku.'

Martin. 'What's that?'

Debi. It's a swift spiritual kick to the head that alters your reality forever.

Martin. 'That would be nice. I think....'
