It's also popular in my university city - Galway (in West Ireland... for some reason, it never caught on in Dublin). Used to drink it a lot as a student. It's dead cheap, maybe 5 euro a bottle, but it's a bit of an acquired taste - sweet and syrupy.

I'm from Galway and also went to NUIG, Ireland and this stuff was the shit! At 9 euro a bottle, 1 bottle would have you swinging from the rafters! Ah, miss that stuff. Tastes like a strong Calpol (for you UK folk). It's very syrupy and full of sugar and caffiene. It's uncomparable to any other alcoholic drink on the market.

I was reading this and thought this was some sort of Sean Connery SNL Celebrity Jeopardy joke. Ironical of course because Connery is Scottish.

There was the buck futter joke, maybe that's the one you're thinking of?

Buckfast, now that takes me back *misty eyes*

Laughing at the yanks not knowing what the hell it is.

It's from England originally, made to keep the Scots down.

A source of national pride?

Nah, most English don't know that much about it. However Scots like to bang on about buckfast and how Scottish they are for drinking it in their youth, so it's just a line to throw out.

Didn't want to spell it out, but yes.

Regardless, I must sample this tasty beverage. I now have a mission.

So, they think no one else can handle it. That sounds like a challenge. Laughing
