The ipod touch apps weren't simple. They included many of the map apps that exist now, there were also tons of other useful apps like the Wingbus restaurant guide app.
smart phones may have been around longer, but android ones weren't really big here, so there was no motivation to have korean apps written for them.

Not really
For example it seems that android doesn't have the YBM Kor/English Dictionary. This dictionary, while expensive, is head and shoulders above the other dictionaries and it was a waste of money to use the other ones compared to this one. the sheer amount of information in each entry can be staggering, it includes tons of example sentences in each language for different uses of the words, and almost every word is hot linked.
that cole zhu dictionary which is often recommended is a joke compared to this.
android only seems to have one, and from the looks of the screenshots it's worse than the cole zhu one.

They're two different things.
I use skype to call landlines. gchat is utterly useless for that.
if you want to use skype just like gchat, its free too.
skype only costs when you want to start calling real phones. text, video chat and sending files is all free.

both on the iphone.
as I said we can pick and choose all day, with tens of thousands of apps you can play whack-a-mole till you're blue in the face. however, duplication isn't replacement. It might be in some cases, but not all the time.

appears to do the same thing as icoupon. Gives various coupons that can be used through the phone. Can search by business type or location.
You're right about afreeca.
imembership also has an exact equivalent called "Smart Wallet" which can generate barcodes for membership cards.

As an iPhone user I think the Android Store is catching up to iTunes apps.
TStore apps seem to be on a par with the apps in the Korean iTunes store.
ScanSearch is a great iTunes app for locating services in your vicinity. I know there is an Android TStore equivalent but how good is it?
Also, KT has netspot and SK has.....? Haven't detected many SK hotspots but I often pick up netspot.
I listen to a lot of UK podcasts downloaded from the UK iTunes store. If I was an Android user can I download the same content or not?
What about audiobooks on an Android?
The iPhone too seems smoother when navigating between screens.
Lastly, dare I say it but the iPhone 4 (and still 3GS) looks so much better than a Galaxy S.
I do like many HTC Android phones but have no idea how good HTC A/S is in Korea so I would be reluctant to purchase one.
Apple A/S hasn't been so good but it's got better lately. No more refurbished phones for a minor problem. |

yes I didn't search Tstore, just the regular android marketplace. one would assume if you bought an android phone on KT or LG you wouldn't have access to Tstore.
having a specialized app store is good, but only if you're with that carrier, that isn't so much an argument for android as it is an argument for that carrier.
Now you're talking about being locked in again, same as with apple.
If anyone does have SK+android I highly recommend that dictionary it is absolutely amazing and if you're learning korean at all, it will do wonders for your comprehension. the various example sentences really help you understand the the way words are used in different situations and sometimes when it's more natural to just change the sentence rather than use a direct translation from English. |

| At the end of the day, there isn't much difference between the handsets. They are both roughly the same spec, but the reason I chose an Android phone is because I hate the limitations that Apple impose in terms of what you can do with the phone. No Flash, no xvid/divx, limited audio codecs, forcing you to use the POS itunes etc. On the other hand, the iphone is extremely easy to use and is a pleasant experience overall. |

If you get the phone unlocked, it'll work with ATT and T-mobile (US). 3g connection should work (matching networks) for ATT, but probably won't work with T-mobile (2g should work though). |

1) The only glaring weakness for me is no dmb on the iphone. Any workaround for this like is there an app that compensates for this?
2) Also, what's the current price difference roughly with the iphone versus galaxy s? I've heard the galaxy s was cheaper but it doesn't seem like it when I look online.
3) Also, it seems like skype can't be used for VOIP over KT's 3g? Is this still true? Can you use VOIP over skt's 3g right now w/ the galaxy S? It's interesting because I actually need skype right now and it seems the iphone can't use the 3g, only wifi which drastically limits it, and the galaxy s, well doesn't even have a skype app out for it right now.
Please let me know I need to buy a phone very soon! |

Despite this glowing summary of Apple's wonderphone, Wozniak believes that the requirement to use the company's iTunes software to unlock many of the features of the handset is a major drawback compared to devices based around Google's Android operating system, which he describes as 'for everyone.'
It's that proprietary vs open source thing again........I think Apple's next smart move would be to do something about iTunes.....it's going to end up being an albatross around their neck. |
