| From a news expose I saw, the Evisu stores in SK are Korean knockoffs and are not related to the Japanese label. |
I think the Korean Evisu is legit as they have stores inside some of the big name department stores here, but the product range is definitely very different to what you'd find in Japan. I spoke to one of the sales assistants at the Evisu store in Coex and she said that the products they sell are from the "Evisu Korea" range, and similarly there is an "Evisu Europe" range too - unfortunately it seems like they don't stock any of the original Japan range though... no #1 or #2 denim to be had here! (at least, not from the official Evisu stores anyway....) |
I generally thought seeing the brand name store in a Korean department store means it's legit but it doesn't apply to Evisu here. I found the news clip here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XClD-Hfb1Do
The Evisu Myeongdong sales assistant in the news expose says something about an Evisu Korea range as well - it's probably what they are trained to say. In the clip, however, the Japanese Evisu employees say the company doesn't market in Korea at all and are aghast at what they find in an Evisu department store shop in SK.
In the clip they interview the man who registered the Evisu brand in SK and he says that the similarities between the Japanese and Korean Evisu name and trademarks are coincidence - the seagull-shape on the back pocket is actually Korean mountains and the Ebisu god can be found on Korean liquor bottles.
The Myeongdong Uniqlo is legit, tho! |
There was a Korean guy who did the same thing with Coach. He said he owned the trademark before they did and you used to be able to buy his Coach knockoffs everywhere. They either settled or they had him legally stopped. |

you are from Busan?
head over to nampodong, PNU or Seomyeon under ground market.
I actually thought the clothes were better in Busan than in Seoul. |

| Surprised you haven't been tempted to simply make the Japan crossing by ferry and purchase quality denim to your heart's content, with a bit of sightseeing thrown in for good measure |

You'd think this option would be on the table with the amount of cash these damned jeans cost eh? |

Resurrecting this denim thread...
What's the deal with prices in Seoul? In the US bought at Nordstroms (Seven, Lucky, G-Star, whatever), good denim for like $150-200 USD each.
Checked out a big mall/tower in Gangnam area and found some I liked, for $600.
I could order three pairs online from Nordstrom for that crazy price, but kinda hard when you can't try them on, or hit Hong Kong. |

That's shopping in Korea. You can do better if you go to one of the outlet malls, but prices are usually still higher than in the U.S. |

I guess I've been living in a cave, never heard of em...but will check it out. Their KR site says 40-60K won, which if they fit nicely and aren't crap quality seems like a darn good deal. |

Like you can't go to a uniqlo store in the U.S., for example, NYC, San Francisco, New Jersey or in Japan. |
