One thing that you don't say that will happen is this: if enough F-2s are present, employers will stop hiring new E-2s as it will be easier to avoid all the visa problems those types of visas require.
. |
On the other hand one could argue this:
That those "visa problems" are minor. And a F-2 can leave the job at any time and find another one whereas it's harder for an E-2 visa holder. Most Korean bosses like an employee they can control/who's more predictable... |
Many employers in Japan insist that applicants have their own visas.
I forgot to mention fictitious posts. |
This thread has nothing to do with Japan. |
Thanks for weighing in. My point (obviously) was that if more people had their own visas, it could put E-visa holders at a disadvantage because Korean companies won't want the burden of sponsorship (just like many Japanese companies). |
Sponsorship is not that much of a burden...there are something like 30,000 or so E-2 visas according to the numbers recently being thrown around on Dave's. Plus you are making an assumption based on what...?
I could as easily say that many Korean bosses prefer the E-2 visa because it ties the employee more securely to the company/school.
And the average ESL teacher doesn't stay here long enough/have enough interest to qualify/study for this F-2 visa. |

I don't really care enough to pursue this conversation with you, TBH. The thread interests me because I'm a long-term sponsored worker. I don't qualify for an F-2 under the point system, but from what I've been reading it may be worthwhile to try to upgrade my qualifications over the next few years.
ETA: This change seems like a positive step for Korea. They're rewarding foreign workers for taking the time to improve their skills, and helping them (by providing the course). Hopefully it will motivate people to stay longer, learn more Korean and get more education. |

| Does anyone know the processing time on the F-2-7 visa? I finish my KIIP class in mid july and was hoping to get it before I leave to visit home for a while so I could come back without any problems. |

Yikes! 2 months? What if my e-2 expires before then? I was hoping to have a smooth transition from one visa to the next....
Also, besides the points, assuming I have all of them, what else do I need? Are there any health checks, photos, background checks etc that you need for the visa? |

I don't know. Maybe since one visa is in process it'll be ok? Best to ask. I don't believe there's anything else besides the points. Maybe a photo or two. Keep in mind that it's not good forever. I cant remember, but I believe there's a limit to how much time you can spend outside the ocuntry, 6 months or a year or two. |

I am looking into the the f-2-7 point visa and am currently an teacher working under a E-2 visa. My contract will be up in January and I would like to renew, but because of a DUI I got 12 years ago I have to go somewhere else (china, japan). I figure I could study for the Korean proficiency test and come back once I qualify for the f-2-7 visa....,
but I have read somewhere I can only apply for the f-2-7 if I am currently under a E (workers) visa, so therefor coming in as a student or visitor visa would not help my cause is this true? |

Yes it's true, you can only apply if you are a current E visa holder. So unless you can get all of your points sorted out before your current visa expires you may be out of luck.
If that's not possible you may want to look into a way to get your old DUI record sealed or expunged. It may be possible depending on where you are from. You'll probably need to get in touch with a lawyer back home to see if this is a possibility.
Otherwise start packing your bags for China. |
