Boseong in south Jeolla province is nice. Perhaps not top 10 worthy but worth mentioning anyway
I don't know about the other national park mentioned but Jiri is fantastic.
Jeonju? When I went there it seemed like a pretty dull place. It didn't help that it was raining, and I didn't visit the park to be honest |

Heinsa (Buddhist temple), Nami Island, Donghae, and Chuncheon all have their charms. DMZ should stay on the list. |

I really don't see what's charming about Nami Island. The hordes of Chinese tourists looking to have their photo taken in the setting of their favorite drama? Or the music blasting across the water from the inappropriately placed bungee platform? Maybe it's because I went late in the fall and the weather wasn't fantastic, but all I got from it was a crowded little island that wasn't really impressive in terms of natural beauty. |

I think Democracy Park in Gwangju is a must-see for any expat in Korea. It's very moving and of course, historical. I visited just a few months after arriving and I believe it had a very distinct impression from that point forward on everything I learned later about Koreans and Korea.
it's an easy bus trip out there from the Bus Terminal in Gwangju but maybe take a cab back because they don't come that often in the afternoon/early evening. |

As far as Busan is concerned...
The obvious choices are Gwangan and Haeundae, but I really enjoyed Yongungsa temple (20 minutes from Haeundae subway stop) and Jagalchi/Nampo. |

The most interesting experience I had while travelling around Korea during my 5 years there was a trip to Hongdo. I don't want to talk it up too much as I think it's better to not have expectations too high. I'm that way with most things. But it's a cool trip for one or two nights.
Fresh fish they will bbq for you on the pier. A couple hiking trails to the top of the island. A noraebang and several restaurants. There's also a boat tour around the island. Not a bad weekend trip. I think there was even a cheesy 80's style club there if I remember correctly.
It's probably not for everyone, but it gave me an authentic, laid back type of experience I was searching for at the time. Definitely a different feel than anywhere else I had been in Korea. |
