I've heard that the Identity Tab is basically a pile of crap, so the Galaxy Tab is probably the better of the two.
On a related note, today, I saw on the Internet that the Nook Color has been rooted. You can root it and install a custom ROM, turning it into a fully functional Android tablet device.
I wish those were available in Korea. In the US, you can buy one for $250, and it comes with a 7" IPS screen (much better than the Galaxy Tab's screen) with 1024x600 resolution and it has 512 MB of RAM. The processor is a bit slower than the Galaxy Tab's (800 MHz vs. 1 GHz, using the same architecture), there are no cameras, and it doesn't have all the regular hardware buttons. Also, I don't know anything about the GPU, but I presume that the GPU in the Galaxy Tab is much better.
However, that seems like the best value in tablets right now. I wish I could get one of those! |

So what is my answer? YES. Of course every other Korean would own some POS phone as long as it's fashionable.
Until the iPhone arrived in Korea, almost every phone you could buy was a shiny POS. The mindless consumers here bought them anyway because they were endorsed by one of the various vapid boy or girl bands that advertise everything from phones to fried chicken. I think we have enough evidence already to know that Korean consumers are not swayed by quality, performance or any other reasonable rating metric. The only thing that matters is that the phone had a 3-minute song written to advertise it or if the members of Big Bang hold the phone while wearing ridiculous outfits. |
Pretty much par on course for this forum, I suppose. It must *really* suck to be this jaded. |

And yesterday the Nook Color was available for $220! (there was a coupon floating around online). I too wish I had looked at getting a Nook Color (I ended up ordering a Kindle 3G AND an iPod Touch) since it looks pretty versatile after they rooted it.
The problem though is the price. It's $249, but since Barnes and Nobles is a physical store, you have to pay sales taxes on it as well which can bring the price to as much as $270 in some places. That's about $80 more than the Kindle 3G, but still about half the price of an iPad and about $30 less than an iPod touch.
With the rooted Nook Color you can read Kindle books too!
I'm probably going to pass now though. I just dont see the benefit of being an early adopter in the upcoming tablet market. Plus, at only 800mhz, I'm not sure how long the processor will be able to keep up with Android's Honeycomb update (and the ones that come after that).
What do you guys think?
As for the Identity Tab - I saw some reports online saying that it has a resistive touch screen (deal breaker). KT also says that it has no English Menu (double deal breaker). |

i dont know where to begin.
since you want to "save a lot of money," im guessing you never owned a macbook, and dont even remotely know how great they are. the amount of things u can do with a mac trackpad is unbelievable. other notebook's trackpads dont even compare.
im not just talking about compatibility with the OS, im talking about EVERYTHING. you can buy an apple time capsule, that will not only act as a router, but it will allow you to create on-the-fly backups while you work, it will allow you to control your itunes library on your computer wirelessly with your iphone while you stream it to your outdoor speakers plugged into your apple airport express, so you can listen to a podcast of how apple is one of the most innovative companies in its field, during a hot tub session with your neighbour's wife...
im not even going to bother replying to your comment about the iphone 4's bad antenna...
at the end of the day, most of apple's products are far more innovative and superior, in their respective classes, than their competitors...
vista was such a piece of ****. windows 7 isnt all that great, still has a long way to go. the fact more ppl use windows vs. osx doesnt make it better. thats like saying more people use point n shoot cameras, so they are better than DSLRs.
im not saying apple's products are superior in every single aspect, because they are not. hence the reason why ive bought 7 blackberries before ive even considered buying an iphone.
if you tell me, based on your individual needs, your non-apple products are more suitable for you, then fine. but overall, i still maintain what i said before.

Fanboyism.
Ugh, most of the stuff you talked about can be done on windows pcs also. Apple is heavily over priced when it comes to computers. This is because there are millions of companies making PCs, but only one making apple. PCs are more versatile, more powerful and cheaper then macs, just a fact of life. |

I dont think Apple products are overpriced if you look at the quality and lasting power.
Back at home, my Apple desktop is from 2002. Apple recently stopped supporting it with new operating systems but the last operating system for it works fine and the computer is still as fast as when I took it out of the box. Please tell me what (wintel)PC from 2002 is still around and keeping up (and not just being used for microsoft word and snood LOL)?
I think PCs have their place (I may buy a cheap netbook when I do some world traveling) but I would rather be a fanboy sheep and make a "vanity buy" now rather than buying another computer (or two) in a span of several years.
My Macbook Pro is from 2007 and it's still fantastic and just as good as a lot of new computers I see today. I see myself keeping it for another 2 years which makes it well worth the price I paid for it.
Now the lasting power of iPods...that's another story lol |

| Your apple desktop from 2002 isn't "keeping up" unless you're not doing anything with it either. |

It always amazes me how willing people are to be corporate shills.
I mean - I understand that when people spend a lot of money on something, they want to justify their purchase and decision and seek re-affirmation through online discussions - but it's all pretty irrational.
Take a step back, enjoy your new toy, and let go of the hate! |

I very much doubt it...........try checking out a few benchmarks and you'll see......your 2007 MBP is likely between 30-40% as fast as todays laptops. At best......and I'm not even going to ask that you compare it to a current laptop of comparable price!! That would be a bloodbath!
This idea that Mac's have some magical ability to escape obsolescence is pure fanboyism.......their components at the time of manufacture aren't from the future!! They put the same stuff in laptops you know!!
I will concede that the Mac build quality is pretty high. In accordance with the very high prices. So they should continue to work for years if taken care of.....but the chips and stuff inside will become obsolete just as fast as a laptop. |

Well, duh. I think you're reading into it, a wee bit lol.
One area that gets overlooked in this debate is the ridiculously high resale value that Macs have, pretty much rendering the "Macs are overpriced" point moot.
Personally, if I were to buy a PC it would be tinker. If price was my main consideration, I'd actually go Mac. |

I've had some issues with Apple products, but not with my computers. Maybe I'm just lucky, but please, I'm far from being a corporate shill.
My 2002 desktop handled CS4 just fine before I came to Korea (last year). I'm not sure how well a 7 year old wintel desktop would do. If you know, educate me. I am a fan of Apple computers, but I dont hate Microsoft and I'm willing to change my mind if there's a rational argument out there that doesnt involve name calling. (I would love to have bought a Zune, but Microsoft hasnt made it compatible with Macs).
You can call me a "fanboy" until you're blue in the face, but the truth is that I'm probably a lot less biased than you (whoever "you" needs to be) are.
Speaking of fanboy myths, Macs are not insanely marked up like so many people say.
Most people see the sticker price for a Mac laptop and say "Oh, I can find a PC for $599...what idiot would pay those insane prices?!" But the truth is that you're usually comparing a very low end computer to a mid-range or high-end one. Because there are so many manufacturers for PCs, there's a much larger range of prices, ranging from cheaper to way more expensive (*cough Sony cough*).
Ive read quite a few articles online that basically say Macs are similar (usually slightly more but in a few cases, less) than laptops with similar specs. So with this in mind, you'll see that I have no need to validate what I spend my money on to an anonymous stranger that I dont know and will most likely never meet.
You can say that you do just fine with a $799 Dell laptop...but doesnt that make you a sheep, since you're paying insanely more (a Dell tax) for a laptop when Asus offers one for $499?
You can also say "well I built an awesome machine for pennies" but really, the average consumer (myself included) doesnt build computers, they buy them.
So I will gladly stop drinking the Kool-aid when you stop too. |

OT:
My MBP (2007, Santa Rosa) died few days ago. Looks like the nVidia GPU finally committed suicide as expected. *Sigh* I'm still within the extended settlement agreement (TS2377) between Apple and nVidia, so I can get it fixed for free as soon as I go back to Finland... next Monday. *sigh* |
