Being "in a war" stops being an excuse for the restriction of freedom when your national leaders have made it clear they will keep us at war forever. That goes double when the wars in question are all aggressive wars of choice instead of defensive wars of necessity.

These wars hurt our country enough without them being used as justification to reduce basic American freedoms and protections again.

Surely, at its onset the Afghanistan war was something more complicated than an "aggressive war of choice."

But, yeah, the wartime argument is very weak.

The allied bombing began on March 19. The Quran burning happened on the 20th. I wonder if that is just coincidence.

The media deliberately didn't cover Jones much this time around, so it's been hard to find adequate information about the lead-up. Just bits and pieces over this weekend.

It looks like the March 20 date was just a coincidence.

The fullest account that I can find so far is in two parts on Daily Beast. They are not objective reports.

It's entirely possible to be disturbed and appalled by his actions but not think he should face legal consequences like someone who sends death threats to politicians.

Some background: Canada has something called the 'Canadian Broadcasting Corporation'; a government-owned media company run by 'lefty'-type civil servants. (granted, most Canadians are left-of-center) A new 24-hour Canadian news channel just surfaced called 'Sun TV News', which promises to be politically incorrect by showing mohammed cartoons, government waste, climategate, union bullying, etc. (something CBC would never show) Basically it will try to be the only right-wing channel in Canada.

Ezra Levant showed the mohammed cartoons on his show's inaugural night:

here's a video of Levant from Glenn Beck's CNN days:

Quote:
"I do not seek to offend religious sentiment, but I will not submit to tyranny. Demanding that people who do not accept Muhammads teachings should refrain from drawing him is not a request for respect but a demand for submission."
