Why don't you want them to have done it, if it's not wrong? |
because it requires a level of detachment that doesn't align with my personal philosophy. but doesn't mean it's wrong per se. |

Concerns for safety? Selfishness? It's a dangerous business and it can end poorly especially in an unregulated environment. Or it could be the stigma that people such as yourself place on it? I can be fine with it but be concerned what reactionaries might think or do. |

I think your personal philosophy is onto something and may be more universally applicable than you suspect.

At least some of these things seem like valid premises from which to begin to draw ethical conclusions to me. |

No.
Our past teaches us to be a better person in the present.
Besides, people with boring pasts are often pretty uninspiring teachers. They have to have gone out and lived a little! |

Not in her case. She was fired for openly blogging about prostitution while teaching.
Hey, Fox, enjoying off-topic? How do you like it here? Like how they stick to the issues? |

Morality is fake. It should no part of how we run society.
I would prefer an ex-sex worker teaching my kids to someone who acts superior and thinks they have a right to tell others how to live their lives.
Talk about bad role models. |

And as I understand her blogs did not say "Prostitution, go do it" or "protection is for wusses" but rather talked about a difficult decision she'd made and what she'd learned from it. |

| The most influencial teacher the world has ever known was once quoted as saying "He who has not sinned cast the first stone." |

I read it. She is more sly than educational, only mentioning at the end that Craigslist should have done more to protect sex workers. Breaking the law is OK to her.
Don't want her near my kids. |

breaking the law.
does breaking the law automatically make you an immoral person? what about a pot smoker? what about someone who speeds? a jay walker?
if she was a prostitute in amsterdam and became a teacher, would it be different for you? |

| Honestly guys, I don't think women are lining up to engage in the sex trade. More typically it's something people do for lack of a better option. This isn't to say that she should keep her job considering she's still advertising the fact, but the moralizing about sex workers as criminals is a bit much, regardless of what the letter of the law says. |

I appreciate the sentiment that no one wants their mother or their daughter to be a prostitute and I would like to point out that no little girl ever wants to be one when she grows up. It's always a tragedy.
Continuing to stigmatize the ones who work so hard to believe in themselves and that they are worth more than just an opening in their body, doesn't promote anything that is good or excellent in our world, it just keeps people down.
And Fox, I didn't mean to imply that your mother was a prostitute. I'm sorry if you got that from what I said. I was thinking more along the lines of anger issues. From my experience, guys who throw that W word around are pretty scary and haven't much love for women and when that is the case, it usually finds it's beginnings in that maternal relationship. |

I wouldn't want my mother or daughter mining for coal, either. It doesn't mean that I think it's morally wrong.
The woman was wrong for going public with it. She should have buried it and moved on. |
