On a side note, about stalking. I'm a member of a dating site that is geared towards foreigners in Korea. This site will show you the profile of people that come and visit your page or look at your pictures. That's all well and good... except for months now, I keep getting this 40+ old dude checking out my page. Not constantly, but at least every 6 or 8 weeks he shows up to check out my page. Wtf?

I can't believe someone would check out your page on a dating site!! I guess it would be ok for you if he was younger, but wow, 40+, he must be a real creepo.

Just looking at your profile once in a while? Don't think that counts as stalking. But guess some people don't care about age. lol I know as a 30 something, I always seem to attact attention from 20 something women. (I'm talking more than 10 years difference.) But I do look younger than my age.

Wondering what a girl would expect posting a profile on some dating site? Nothing wrong with a 40 year old checking-out a 20 year old, it's hardly stalking. It's not creepy, it's just natural.

If you don't want people on the Internet to look at your profile, then maybe you shouldn't post your profile on the Internet.

And anyway, what's so bad about being 40? He might be nice.

Has he sent you a message? Has he sent you a "wink" (or whatever they're called on your site)? Has he sent a friend request to you? No.

So what exactly is the problem? That he's checking you out? So what? Jeezus, homophobic much?

No, but actually I'd feel better if he did. That way I'd know what was going on or maybe he knew me from somewhere. But he doesn't. So it's like he's just lurking the shadows, following me around.

I always wondered that myself, but how do you know that for certain? I had a couple of people come up to me and ask me the same question. Actually to think that someone at your school that didn't like you, would sink to that level is really crappy. I find it hard to believe that immigration would take the trouble to specifically single somebody out and check on them for illegal teaching, unless they were reported. It would have to be somebody who doesn't like you and has a friend help them out by approaching you and asking for English lessons.

Well, in one specific case, the man that had approached me and asked me for private lessons was terribly persistent about it, despite the fact that I refused numerous times, and explained to him that it was illegal for me to do so. He then suggested that we could do a language exchange, without money changing hands, which would be legal...and I told him that I still thought that was a grey area. He then suggested that we just go out to eat and chat in English, because he would like the opportunity to practice...and I said, "sure, why not?"

He took me out for kalbi, and there was some drinking and singing room stuff, and he kept working at me, trying to get me to agree to give him private lessons. He eventually got so drunk that he admitted what he was doing, and expressed frustration that I wouldn't agree to lessons. He worked for immigration in some capacity, and even gave me his business card.

...this was back in the days when I was looking for "interesting" things to happen. Now, I prefer comfortable things...guess I am getting old....

...so in answer, I know that at least one follower-fellow was trying to nab me for illegal private lessons, because the guy told me so....

Of course, this was many years ago, in Seoul, during one of the "pushes" to weed out illegal private lessons....

That's quite a story! This must be from a different era indeed, because I don't hear about this kind of thing happening anymore (and it's so sensational that I think I would!)

looked into the pepper spray question because i'm currently in the US and wanted to get a new one (lent the old one to a friend)

there are two types of sprays. one with OC and CS.

OC is the one sold to civilians in hardware stores, and CS is the one containing tear gas, aka used by law enforcement.

OC is legal for citizens to carry in Korea, though i haven't heard of anyone really carrying it.

CS is obviously limited to riot police only.

hopefully that helps quell the fears of carrying the spray around in korea

Some Korean men think western women are always up for it..........get some pepper spray if this persists.

Korean police have only started to take sexual harassment seriously......even then most still don't. You need to protect yourself and not depend on police.

Although in reality, this is probably just a one-off.

I think when sexual assult happens to a Western woman, they take it more seriously than they would with a Korean woman.

please treat pepper spray with a great deal more seriousness. If youve never had that stuff go off in your face, maybe spray your arm or something just so you understand when it is and isnt appropriate to use it on people.

Is appropriate: when you genuinely fear for your physical safety and are absolutely sure you are being threatened (and can probably prove it in court).
Isnt appropriate: any other time.

I had a situation a month ago where a friend of a girl (in her group) sprayed one of my friends who had the TEMERITY of chatting on to her friend and stopping them from going into the club. Not physically stopping you understand, but literally holding their group (thats right, he was one person, they were about 5 or 6 - and predominantly white foreigners if i recall) up too long by talking to the girl he liked. This was in gangnam just outside club mass if anyone would like to explain what on earth possessed them.

I didnt understand pepper spray, and now i really do. It's really really nasty. The guy was in searing pain until around 9am the next day (so about 7 hours) and had an eye infection for the week after. Ludicrous stuff. It shocks and amazes me that someone would release that for such flippant reasons.

Sounds like he knows who it was, and how to find them again. Maybe a lawsuit and a bit of blood money will stop that bint from doing something so stupid again?

Generally not a fan of blood money law, but I agree with this one. That was assault, and should be dealt with as such.
