Most of you are right I am a big American baby that expects too much. Thanks for your "advice".

Shame that this site often turns into this very thing.

Don't listen to radius or methodman, they're both trolls (or idiots).

ER's were originally designed for emergency triage, but they are not only for that purpose anymore. When you have some kind of injury that requires medical attention to avoid permanent damage, an ER is EXACTLY where you are supposed to go (I've had my pediatrician tell my mother to take me there at least 3 times). Their job is to patch you up enough so the long term damage is minimal, and then point you in the right direction so you can get it taken care of properly. Because many people come in with dumb things, the lines get long. Every ER should be staffed with people who are capable of fulfilling the job described above.

As for socialized medicine, I haven't heard anyone actually give an argument against it, just a label. Most countries that have it seem to do ok, and the private sector clearly hasn't been doing a good job in the US. I don't care who controls medicine, as long as people can get affordable coverage in case of emergencies that doesn't ruin them financially.

OP, I'm sorry for your bad experience. I had to use an ER last year and was treated pretty well in comparison.

OP:

That sucks you had a bad experience. I had a bad ER experience myself.

The first time I had severe ankle pain from gout, which if you don't know is a type of arthritis. I took a taxi to Yonsei Severance Hospital hoping to get the best care, because everyone talks about how it's the best hospital around. I would normally go to a clinic, but it was Sunday, I could barely walk, and this needed attention immediately.

I paid 50,000 to get admitted to the ER where I was given a tiny bed to lay on. Never ONCE, in the course of 3 hours, did a nurse, doctor, or anyone come by to see me. The ER was packed, filled with old people coughing, babies wailing, and so on...It was a miserable experience. I flagged down a nurse and told her I'd been here for 3 hours and that my ankle really hurt. She gave me an injection, which I'm pretty sure was just saline because it did nothing for the pain. I waited for another hour before deciding this was all fucking ridiculous and walked out of the place.

It was such a ridiculous ordeal. I paid 50,000 to lay on a bed for 4 hours around a bunch of miserable people.

Yet every time I've been to a clinic, I've been extremely impressed with the speedy, quality service I get. I'm in and out the door in 20 minutes.

Next time, wait a day and go to a small clinic.
