I'm sorry, I have to agree with Zackback.
Firstly, the person who equated dated and/or sleeping with 21 year olds to murder is silly. That is a stupid comparison.
You do know that the legal age of consent here is rediculously low right? I heard 18 other people say 13???? That is 13 years old.
Now if the girl is happy then I hardly see what any of your problems with it are. I think you might be jealous.
I am 30 and I think 21 is too young but if a really nice 21 year old came along and we hit it off....I would consider it for a while at least.
Don't know other peoples legal lifestyle choices. If the Koreans do not havea problem with it then why do you? |

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ages_of_consent_in_Asia
"South Korea
The age of consent in South Korea is technically 13 but practically 19.
According to section 305 of the Criminal Law of South Korea [56] it is a criminal offense to engage in any sexual act with a minor under the age of 13.
According to section 7 of the Protection of Minors from Sexual Exploitation Law,[57] it is a criminal offense to deceive or pressurize a minor under the age of 19 into any sexual act.
Strictly speaking, the age of consent in South Korea is 13. However, if deceit or pressure is used in gaining the consent of a minor under the age of 19 the accused will be punished under section 7 of the Protection of Minors from Sexual Exploitation Law[58] for it is very difficult to prove that the sexual act was completely voluntary."
Bolding mine
While it may be 13 technically, for all intents and purposes it is 19. And any adult who goes after a 13 year old deserves to be stuck in jail for life in MHO. |

Why do you even mention this? First thing is that most on this board are teachers, and for a teacher the lower age would not even be considered. The second thing as foreigners it's definitely a no go.
Do you know why it's 13? Arranged marriages were common in Korea, usually marrying two teens, up until the 70's, possibly even the early 80's. |

No thanks. Only drink with young chicks...those of legal age anyway
I'll stick with those 20 and older. |

I teach ESL in South Korea, and this is the first time that I've ever been out of the USA. One thing that I have noticed is that as a foreigner I receive a LOT of attention, especially from young girls. One group I am teaching in particular are high school students ages 17 and 18. A few of the female students take it upon themselves to try to snap pictures of me with them holding my arms and they even ask me to be friends with them on Facebook.
What do I do? What's acceptable behavior in SK between students and teachers? If they want a hug can I give them one? Can we be FB friends? I don't want to date or sleep with ANY students... I'd feel really bad about that. But how often does a simple hug or friendship turn into accusations that are simply untrue?
These new social standards I have to accept for the next year are unclear to me... I was shocked the other day when a male student ran up to me and hugged me. |
Korean students take pictures and Facebook friend EVERYBODY, so don't think too much of it. And I don't think there's anything wrong with taking pictures with students (especially on their last days) and accepting their friend requests once they're no longer students. |

i wasn't directly comparing your creepy acts of taking advantage of children to murder and anyone with reading comprehension beyond a bowl of bimbimbap would have seen that. i was trying to show you your lame attempt at an excuse for your behavior by using hyperbole to illustrate how ridiculous my statement is in comparison to yours (or to simplify for you, both statements are completely devoid of any logic and are ludicrous).
this however seems to have escaped your grasp as well as another poster's.
in a perfect world since you are older than me and many others on this board you would be wiser and have things to teach others. sadly, we don't live in a perfect world. |

| It's no good for men in their mid-twenties to look at schools/hagwons as potential dating destinations, but let's not become overly condescending and claim that 18-19 year old girls have just finished watching Dora the Explorer. |

I thought Zack was a 20 something guy from
the west coast all this time.
Where did he say he was 42?
Whatever. People should do what they want to do.
His gal will learn from this, I'm sure. |

Some of the students at my high school still wear Pororo watches.
The kids are "very" friendly in ways that seem inappropriate to westerners but I really doubt there is anything sexual to it.
If you play it with anything but a straight bat people will think you are creepy and rightly so. |

What's creepy? Me? I said I don't want to date or sleep with any students... the lowest I will go is 21 and that's pushing it (think maturity levels).

Then it's about 35 for Korean women. |
I think it's about 35 for anyone. Sorry, but most of us 35 and under NETS aren't exactly pillars of maturity. Myself included.
As for the OPs question.
I have no problem with FBing students. You know, some of us don't have lewd/trashed pictures of ourselves and our friends and know people who don't fill it with curse words.
In the non-bizarro world where "the innocent" use facebook and do things like (gasp!) facebook their parents, having your students as friends is perfectly fine and normal.
I know this sounds judgmental, but if I was one of those FB surfing HR people, I'd take note of people who have their parents as FB friends. It suggests an honesty in their character and a certain maturity level. Points go up if they have things like older, married people as friends. |

| Even if the legal age was lower in Korea (or anywhere else) 18 years old would be the youngest I would go for. At that age it is considered to be an adult in the USA. That is where I was raised. I have been seeing this girl since the end of last year. She would give me free food when I went to where she worked. I waited to date her when she graduated high school in February. I would talk to her while she worked but that's it. So it has been about 7 months since things got hot and heavy. Yes, I am 42 years old. |

Wow Zach.
So you patiently waited for a HIGH SCHOOLER to finish high school so you could date her...and you're 42? So basically you have a thing for kids, but don't want to break the law so wait until she just crosses the line to be legal then snag her? I'm sure she has a great personality and if she just finished high school, I'm sure she also has a superior command of the English language right? This post disgusted me. |

It seems to be getting really inconsistent what the mods here deem fit to delete or not.
If the criteria for deleting a thread is mainly about whether it would upset any Korean who happened to read it, and by that put off Korean employers advertising here, then this one has got to go.
(BTW, I don't personally believe Zack is doing anything wrong here. He's dating a legally designated adult. She might turn out to have the maturity of a 30 year old and he might turn out to have the maturity level of a man much younger than 42. They might be a perfect match!). |

Wearing cute cartoon animal merchandise is no indicator of maturity level, especially in places like Korea where it's perfectly normal for adult females (and even males) to do so. |
