This thread makes me chuckle, because to my parents, "Long Hairs" are classical music conductors. That's what they called 'em in the 50's, because they often had long hair.
Then the 60's happened, and that term changed in meaning. |

| How about on the other side of the coin? Does being bald/ shaved head have a negative view in Korean culture? |

| a haircut and acceptable appearance goes a helluva long way. |
I could not agree with this more. I had dreads for most of my adult life (16-22). My personality development grew around the fact that most people were scared of me, thought I was a drug dealer, hippie, homeless, etc. The truth is I've never smoked, drank, or taken any drugs in my whole life. For people who actually took the time to talk to me and get to know me I really changed their perspectives and prejudices. But for the most part people are going to be assholes, like this guy:

And that's not even that bad. He just thinks you're a weirdo. I've been treated like shit for pretty much my whole adult life. I had experienced nothing else so I just thought this is the way it was.
Then I cut my hair and shaved. HOLY SHIT. My life COMPLETELY changed. I'm still getting used to it. My life is so much easier. People are so nice to me. Basically every social interaction interaction in my life has improved dramatically.

People cannot overcome their prejudices. You just have to work around them. You may be attached to your hair, but I can tell you, life is so much better when you just look the way other people want you to look. It's sad, but true. If you want to make your life a lot easier, cut your hair. You may be in denial about how your hair may effect your relationships with people. I certainly was. If you have had long hair for a long time you probably won't realize how it effects your life. I basically went from being a drug dealer to a movie star in one day. It was hard to believe how something as stupid as hairstyle completely determine whether people will like you, trust you, be attracted too you or not.
These people with narrow-minded attitudes that you speak of will be your best friends when they like the way you look. I could go to a party with my waist-length dreads and have everybody hate me, or think I'm weird. I could meet the same people at a party a week later after getting a haircut, and these people will love me. Or they won't even know who I am, in which case I can create an entirely new first impression. You are the way you look. What you think you are is irrelevant, because nobody cares or believes.
Anyway, I just had to share my thoughts on the matter. I hope this helps! |
