When I eat out I definitely prefer to sit in the table and chair area of the restaurant; fortunately, so do most of my friends. At home though, I prefer to pull out the low table and sit on the floor during meal times (especially in winter), but I always snag the spot that allows me to lean back against the sofa!

When I sit in a chair, it's usually cross legged, as if it were a padded floor... I'm resting my neck against a chair back at the moment, but only because I'm tired.

I've never knowingly met someone who can't sit cross legged. I'll admit, I'm flexible, so maybe not the best person to judge, but I had never imagined that as a feat of flexibility. On the basis of replies here maybe that's the case for some.

@ OP: You seem to expect Korea to change just to make your life more comfortable. Question

while i dont expect korea to change their backwards ways to satisfy me, i can appreciate the ops frustration. during my first couple months here, there were a couple phrases that came out of my mouth on a daily basis:

"Why does this happen?"

"This makes no sense, how does this go on?"

After a while, a very wise man once said, "Logic and Korea don't go hand in hand." "When you see something that makes no sense, ask yourself 'Why?' Then answer, 'Because, it's Korea...' and keep walking."

Just look at the Korean education system. Koreans are trained to do as they are taught without asking questions or being forward thinking.

The main difference between the big western cultures and korea (from what i gather) is that Koreans don't know any better and don't have the desire/ability to change to something better, and Westerners know better, but don't give a **** and do dumb things anyway.

i went back home to Canada for a month during the summer and I didn't care for korea one bit (i even have a k gf here). i realized korea doesnt matter. the girls are hotter back home, and they actually have a brain. food is 100x better, people have common sense (despite the fact they might not always use it), theres much more opportunity to make money, the education system is built to actually educate, and i dont have to deal with koreans unless i go to korea town!

what im trying to say is, who cares? its korea.

Simply refuse to go to any restaurant without chairs. Say it's a medical condition. There are plenty of restaurants with chairs. By making you sit on the floor, they're showing how little they care about you (not at all).

"I don't understand" = "It's not logical."
"I'm not comfortable" = "It's backwards."

Good retort.

"Those Persians and Turks don't speak Greek." = "They are barbarians!"

In all fairness, those Persians wore wicker armor.

Like only Americans are sitting on chairs? The entire world is basically sitting on chairs.

So now Westerners invented chairs also? (rolls eyes)

Maybe there is a happy medium between the floor and chairs. I think bean bags would fill that role perfectly.

Very Happy

No mystery why 300 Spartans in heavy armour at a narrow place could hold off 1000s of Persians in their matchwood suits for 3 days.

The first caveman to sit on a rock with his back to a tree understood the concept of a chair.
