| I believe I called the decision a mistake. It is a good thing that the Korean nation does not have to give an account to the people of Dave's. This country would be in a real mess if they did. Remember you people aren't judge of Korea, you are not perfect and your mistakes match many, many Korean ones you claim they make. |
Not bad English. Studied a lot I reckon. |
yeah, not terrible. but the few mistakes are quite telling. |
Calender is full of junk, but his opinion isn't invalid because he is Korean. His opinion is junk because its way over the top, uber-defensive, and devoid of any semblance of humor and "The Dave's Family" that at least normal bashers and apologists bring to the table.
I really don't care for what he's writing but this 'because they are Korean, they are somehow unable to make a point or their opinion should be rejected out of hand' is intellectual laziness of the first degree.
At least to me that's what seems to be being insinuated in the last couple of comments.
Stick to the invalidity of the facts. |
I think he has pushed it past the point of being taken seriously and is fair game for open mockery. |

According to calendar, every other non-Korean's opinion regarding issues in Korea is invalid simply due to the fact that those individuals are not Korean. Seems to me that should apply to him also. |

i never claimed his/her opinion wasn't valid. i just think it's easier to understand his/her opinion once it's realised that they're korean. there's a little bias that sticks out in their posts, is what i'm gettin' at.
but haven't we established in another thread that it's some western-world-hatin' blogger?
i'm confused. |

Well, that's true too.

That as well.

Well, I just think it's best not to go down that road. Better to have their shoddy opinions disregarded on their fails of logic and over the topness rather than what country they come from. We do have biases, but background should really be avoided...
That being said, with the way calender has been going about things I can't really blame people for too much...
Seriously calender, I'm probably one of the biggest apologists on this board, the other being TUM, followed up by Pat and the Cap'N and I don't think a one of us is viewing things from you too favorably. You think that might be a sign?
Whatever you do just don't ruin the threads that lead to 20 posts of bad, but funny, jokes. Stuff like the towel snapper.
Can you imagine First Date Bites or Towel Snapper or I Swallowed a Bone if calender happened to them? They'd die before they could get going... |

I suppose poking fun at him for possibly being Korean is pushing it a bit. He does just have a way of sucking us all in though.... |

Again you do not grasp the breadth of your audience. Not all posters on Dave's are in Korea on work visas. Some are Korean, some are residents, others are in the process of attaining or have attained citizenship.
These people have a much deeper understand of Korea and Korean culture than the vicarious experience you have gleaned from your students has given you.
So please take your own advice and as a migrant foreign worker don't comment on what is best for Korea. Because the best thing for Korea is to get varied opinion and ideas for improvement from a variety of sources. You attempt to limit that. It's detrimental to Korea's future and people that matter, including those on Dave's resent white knight efforts such as those that you display.
Put simply, your supposed defense of Korea actually hurts it. You are in the same group of people that you yourself say shouldn't meddle. So don't. Don't comment on what Korea needs and doesn't. It's not your concern. It's ours.

I almost cried reading this, i want to shake your hand lol but then again, even if we all beat this same mentality into the said target, i dont think they will learn. Ahh oh well, lets continue! lol |
