If you don't mind a little bit of a ferry commute daily into Van, Bowen Island would be a great spot to live.

Dude,

Vancouver gets well above 30s in the summer and its a mediterranean climate. Plenty of humidity. You can compare it to Seattle. If money is not an issue go north of Vancouver. There is plenty to see and do and loads of crown land to play on.

Good luck on your move

Nanaimo.

Now, before you all get that weird look on your faces, hear me out:

It is the hub of Vancouver Island.

You can easily access both Vancouver or Victoria in under an hour.

Just as beautiful as Victoria

Cheaper living

Transportation around town is very easy either by car, bike, or bus.

Lots of new jobs coming up

Nanaimo is in a good location but is aesthetically dismal. One big strip mall.

Alright! I already have one customer for my future gimpap shop. But are there already a lot in Van? I hope not.

And Van gets humid!? Jeebus... Someone tell me where can I escape this hot weather!!! I'm so sick of humidity. I want to find a place that never goes above 28 or so and rarely below zero. Azjen, you're killing me here ><

Vancouver doesn't get humid like Toronto, or as hot.

hmm haven't spent a lot of time in Toronto. How does it compare to the Seoul weather lately. Today, although not terribly humid or hot, was still too hot for my liking. I really really hate the heat.

Not sure what azjen is on about; Vancouver gets very little humidity. Always that nice breeze coming in off the ocean to make things right. The summers in Vancouver are pleasantly warm during the day, but not too overbearing. Always cools down at night, too. Korean summers are way, way more unpleasant. To me, the heat and humidity here seems so stifling. It just ain't like that in Vancouver.

I agree with this. Very little humidity.

whew that's a big relief! I was getting worried there LOL.

Vancouver seems like the climate I've always wanted.

Back when I was in highschool I could handle the humidity just fine, but since I hit my 20s, I just haven't been able to take it.

Van will be my new home for sure Smile

i agree with whiner...

nanaimo is alright. a little dingy and run down in spots but you can buy a house there for super cheap, and there's some of the most beautiful scenery in canada around that area.

my friend and his wife were considering moving there to have little kids as he's a computer dude - and there's supposed to be a HUGE tech boom there in the coming 5-10 years. not that those tech booms ever pan out, but whatever. it's going to become more of a boomtown for about 10 years.

cortes island is officially the most beautiful place in canada, and it's 1 hour away from campbell river, about 2 hours north of nanaimo.

hornby island, gabriola island, denman island... they're close too.

http://www.gulfislands.ca/

and damn, the herbal refreshments there are GOOOOOOOOD. not that that's your bag, but if you're lookin', that's the place to go. enforcement is at a minimum, too.

Cortes is beautiful. And not so busy as Hornby/Denman. No police on the island. Sweet.

But, South Moresby Island is my call for the most beautiful place in Canada.

Vancouver Island (Comox Valley) in the house. Do you want employment or lifestyle? The two are not necessarily compatible in BC. A quick 'Lonely Province' sketch would go something like this. From east to west: the Kootenays; beautiful, lots of protracted hippies there, Nelson is a splendid little city. Okanagan; too many rednecks. Take the wine tour but otherwise avoid the place. Fraser Valley; the Bible Belt. Need I say more? Vancouver: everything you could want in a city, with kickass scenery to boot. Victoria; a serene scenario, my personal favorite, it always holds magic for me. The Gulf Islands; achingly beautiful, as well as magical, but one has to be either very rich or very poor to live there. North of these places, it's either too wet or too cold to maintain one's sanity. By the way, Nanaimo is an armpit. I speak from experience. Most of Vancouver Island is a fine place to be, but check out those Gulf Islands; you'll fall in love all over again.

just an FYI, checked wunderground.com for the current conditions in vancouver, bc.... Current humidity 55%, and the rain hasn't started. Boyfriend is from there, let's just say my straight hair turns to curly when we visit.

Depends on what you consider humid I guess.

Best of luck on your endeavor. Oh yeah before I forget, I have a friend who lives in downtown, loads of asian markets down there. I made the mistake and took her dog for a stroll down the wrong street.

I think your last statement says it all. I checked the wunderground.com site to check the humidity for Tucson (where your location in your profile says you are) and the reading was -1% (although it has been updated to 4% since I first checked when writing this post). I'm not sure I even understand what a negative value means. Maybe it was an error. But wow, even 4%, man that's low.

Anyways, yes, I guess Vancouver may seem humid to you. I've never found it to be uncomfortably humid there. It just doesn't get the high temperatures that, when coupled with high humidity, makes one conscious of it.
