I like how you changed your argument from foreigners not going to Kangnam/Gangnam (seriously whatever douche bag) to only foreigners living in the vicinity.
And don't you think a lot of foreigners who live in Jamsil or Bundang would prefer to go to Gangnam than Itaewon of Hongdae?
Other than Itaewon and the Hongdae/Shinchon area I would say that Kangnam is the most foreign (i.e. Western) frequented area of the city.
Ever been to Voodoo, Rainbow, Kings Tap or Big Rock? |
I've been to Raindow, Kings Tap, and Big Rock. All three of those locations have predominantly Korean customers. The only place I've seen packed on a weekend is Rainbow. Big Rock/Kings Tap has a crapload of empty tables on Friday/Saturday night.
Just admit your assumption is incorrect. Maybe you and your group of friends hangout in Gangnam all the time. Nothing wrong with that. I'm not saying its a bad place. I'm saying the area doesn't draw foreigners.
If you want to keep defending your position, go right ahead. After this post, I'm done beating this dead horse. Gangnam doesn't appeal to foreigners. The only reason someone from Jamsil or Bundang would go to Gangnam is due to the proximity of their homes. NOT because of the bars and entertainment it has to offer. (Pssst...because it doesn't appeal to foreigners).
*EDIT*
Maybe Whiskey Weasel will start a change in that status quo. A year from now it Gangnam could be bigger than Hongdae for foreigners. However, right now, foreigners prefer other areas. |

The guy started throwing insults at me. I tried to keep the conversation civil, but he wanted to be childish. |

Then why was it that before the latest military curfew it was common to see American soldiers around NB on Friday and Saturday nights.
I'm not operating around any assumptions here.
This is a stupid argument anyways.
I'm a dumbass for even getting involved. |

Is there any map of Gangnam that shows where the western bars are located?
Or if somenone could point me in the general direction of the main nightspot streets of Gangnam. I'm not very familiar with it.
I know an area where there's an Irish bar, curry restaurant and kind of mexican place. Is that the main area for nights out?
Thanks. |

I believe you're thinking of the spot where Dos Tacos is, since there's a curry place right there too. A Korean girl took me to eat on that street right behind the area you're talking about so I guess it's kind of popular? That's all I got. |

Spelling it with a K is perfectly acceptable. just like spelling Pusan with a B
in fact Kangnam is the original way to spell it. |

| I think Whiskey Weasal will do really well in Gangnam for the same reason they are doing well in Ilsan; watching games, good food with great prices, nice selection of beers, relaxing with co workers after a hard day dealing with kids and esl. Also I always see tons of schools having their little drinking parties there and isn't Gangnam famous for the hogwons? Haha I feel like a car dealer right now... |

true. but the difference between Ilsan and kangnam regarding ESL teachers drinking.
is the ESL set in Ilsan don't want to travel to Itaewon because it's to far.
the Esl teachers in kangnam will go to Itaewon because its 5 mins in a taxi |

That's because there is nothing currently in Gangnam. If some place was here I think convenience would dictate people going to the local place. Last thing i would want to do after work is hop in a taxi and get stuck in traffic for 30 minutes if there was some place 5 min. walk. |

this is also true, I worked in kangnam for a long time and after work we would always say. "let's not go to Itaewon ok"
but then where? so we end up in some hof or some Korean place,. which is ok too, but then after that it's like.. "now where'?
in a cab to the won. hahahaha
but I think a bar in kangnam is needed.. |

Of course, you're right that the government's currently preferred style of romanisation would have it written with a G. But plenty of folk still use the style which has it as a K and that's considered widely acceptable.
And I'd have thought someone spelling their own name Kang would've been a bit more sympathetic to users of older style romanisation. |

I'll second the notion that the Whiskey Weasel will be a good spot.
They're having a 'soft' opening, I guess it's called, this Saturday. I know a lot of people will be making their way to Gangnam from Ilsan......that's how much people appreciate the atmosphere that the Weasel provides. I'll be doing the same, as the owners are great people ...... their facebook page has a map

Well good luck to Whiskey Weasel. I worked in Gagnam for a year and never really found a place that clicked. Rainbow would have been okay but only in small doses. Big Rock was a ghost town the one time I went - it was so shockingly empty I never went back. The Irish bar, Dublin or whatever, was overpriced and disappointing.
I don't think there's a big draw for a foreigner bar there (Big Rock, after all, started off with that intention) but who knows, maybe the time is right? |
