So, I guess the D10 is still a little hit and miss in that scenario. Other options, if no letter of release, is go to Japan and come back. How long do you have to leave before coming back as a tourist? Also, under this scenario I think I'd have to go back out again to get an E2 again?

Otherwise, if the contract ends, you can just apply for the D10 Visa and it's good for 6 months?

End of contract switch to D10 and good for 6 months of job searching without the need for new documentation.

MID contract and it is another can of worms.

Yes, there is always the option of leaving and make sure your visa is canceled on the way out (can be an issue for Americans with multi-entry visas). There is no "minimum" outside the country (go to Japan and return on the next flight works just fine). yes, in this scenario you need new documents AND another trip to Japan for the new E2.

Seems shes gone, no updates.

It does not add up that she could not fly due to not having onward ticket from Thailand. Perhaps that & the fact that she was leaving her job.

I have flown many times to Thailand without onward ticket but not running from a job.

It also strikes me that there was an element of immaturity here. Oh well, shes gone & I hope all works out.

That, or she's locked up in airport jail and working off her time and debt to society doing listen and repeat activities and pressing play and pause on a CD player at the Incheon SLP Branch. (That's how we know SLP = Slave Labor Program)

Or they've sent her to the Korean equivalent of Gitmo.

Let this be a lesson to anyone else who's thinking about disobeying their hogwon master!!! No one can just choose to leave. You're out when they say your out!

You can quit and leave Korea any time you want to.

You are not a slave. You are not a prisoner. Hand in your ARC at the airport and say goodbye.

Have a nice trip home.

(The only exception would be if you are wanted for some serious criminal offense. There have been cases of E2 teachers fleeing ahead of the law after some criminal act, even one writing on Dave's worrying about being detained but not mentioning his criminal activity.)

It is (was) NOT a leave the country issue.
It was an "enter Thailand without a visa and without onward travel" (not meeting the requirements for visa free travel) issue.

You will have NO problem leaving Korea and returning to your home country. Hand in your ARC as you pass through passport control, enjoy your duty free shopping and have a pleasant flight home.

They will call your school! There is no doubt of that, so be prepared & have a story ready.

I have left a few times before completing a contract & each time the director was called by immigration.

I am not sure if they can do much but I am 95% sure your boss will be called.

Are you saying that you were at the airport, leaving Korea, and Immigration called your school when you were leaving early? I've never heard of this happening before. If you went to an in-country, Immigration office to change or cancel your visa early, then yes, it happens, but from the airport? Really? Details please.

I call BS on that. If it really happened, give us the details, but I have a hard time believing that.

Why would the immigration guy call your boss? How would he even know your boss' phone number?

No chance. Airport authorities have one mandate--to keep passport control moving smoothly. They only delay you if they suspect you've violated immigration law (or if you've been charged with a crime).

Also: anyone who has left a "few times" before completing a contract should probably evaluate their situation. If it's true, and barring some extreme extenuating circumstances, it suggests either:

1) A lack of research and preparation going into these jobs, or
2) An inability to follow through on commitments

I have no reason to lie!

It happened when I left a job in Ulsan, all was agreed with the director but when I handed it ARC card they called my director. It was a brief call but if I had been running then I guess it would not have been so brief.

The second time was leaving a job in Masan & getting ferry to Japan. They called from the Port in Busan.

There is no reason for me to lie & it did happen, I assure you. I was leaving a job early & had to stay out of Korea until the visa expired in the first instance. In the second I had quit the job & had to do a visa run to Japan.

No need to call me a liar or BS. It did happen.
