IMO, no. I used one in a hostel in Malaysia once, and only once, even though I was there for 2 nights. But Korean companies might make better units. The one posted on here looks more complicated than the one I used.
I do think that's the best way to go though - use the existing water, together with filters including UV if possible. Carbon filters etc. to remove the nasty excess material, and UV to kill off bacteria. Jeju is the only truly acceptable fresh water tap drinking water. It's easy for some of you on here to say you drink the tap water - that doesn't mean you do, and nobody knows what you look like! You can only claim to look, and be healthy in anonymous world..

What a great thing to boast about !! I dont really see why anyone would lie about something like that, what do you expect people to look like if they drink tap water ? grow a second head ? a third leg ?

Its ONLY tap water its not like spending a few years hanging around in 1980`s Chernobyl !!

Not so practical for singles, but for families, about 20,000 per month for a water purification system is a good deal. They change our filters every 3 months. They provide the machine. 3 year contract. Or maybe 2?

Irrational fear my ass. If the government was actually trustworthy, the fear would be irrational, but given all the corruption and other sketchy crap going on, the fear is perfectly rational.

My friend researched and told me the water in Korea is held to a high standard initially, but once it goes through those ancient metal pipes it picks up many things you don't want to drink.

A lot of piping in the UK is lead. However lead levels are not a problem. This is because you get a fur that grows around the lead, thereby isolating the water from it.

It's also easy for some people to claim that they drink bottle or home-filtered water - that doesn't mean that you do it either. We also don't know what you look like. Maybe all the chemicals in the bottled water that you drink have given you man boobs. the anonymity of the internet works both ways, doesn't it?

Spending money on bottled water in any form is wasteful. What's wrong with just drinking water from the tap?

When I was in high school, they told us the local dump contaminated the drinking water and installed water coolers next to all the water fountains. Now I live even closer to the old site of the dump, so there's no way I trust the tap water. Water is cheap enough that it is not worth the potential for harm.

Bring a water test kit with you when you come and test your tap water. If it's below standard, follow some of the suggestions here. The HomePlus 5 liter for 1400 works for me!
