Saying that you saw a Korean kid get nervous fails to provide any legitimate explanation for why that might be the case (unless xenophobia is now a legitimate reason).

There's no excuse for the police to allow anyone to lay around drunk outside a subway station.

I am not positive but at least in practice, if not in law, it is not illegal to be drunk and disorderly in public here. I've seen a dude sitting in the middle of a busy road -when police arrived they helped him up and escorted him to the sidewalk before sending him on his way.
We need to bear in mind there is a fairly large gap between unpleasant and dangerous.

How dangerous could a public station be compared to the average household when neighbors make excuses like this?

My Korean wife insists it's dangerous. She points endlessly to the case of a Chinese man who killed a women, chopped her up, put in some luggage and left in the bathroom station.

She seems to forget the Korean man who drove around picking up and murdering women around Ansan, the man who abducted a little girl near here in Anyang the old man who raped an 8 year old in a park in broad day light across from my house....

Koreans are over the top in their fear of foreigners.

That being said, I don't always feel comfortable at Ansan Station. You get all kinds of working guys from all kinds of third world countries who stare at you...not that bad really, I just wish they would get a clue. Both of us are foreign here and they should be a bit more understanding of how uncomfortable it is to be stared at as we all often get stares from Koreans. Some of the restaurant owners can be rather suprised when a person who is not from their home country enters their restaurant. Some are really outgoing and inviting while others seem to act as if you shouldn't be there.

Ansan Station has it's own feel and I can see how some people don't like it. It's definetly not 'high class'. But I don't think it's dangerous.

I see a problem in the logic here.

Anyone else?

I don't necessarily agree with v88, but what he said doesn't really have anything to do with a logical error, more than it does with you attempting to point out some sort of contradiction that I don't think existed. His Korean wife insisting an area is dangerous, which he seems to disagree with anyway, has little correlation to him saying that Koreans are over the top in their fear of foreigners. I think that was kind of his point... But I've never been to this station, and don't really care about the issue. I do, however, think that Koreans are to some degree afraid of foreigners, more than most places I've been. They're often jumpy and strange when approached, and I've caught some of them filming me when I wasn't looking. That may have nothing to do with their internal fear of foreigners, but it's weird behavior. And it comes off as a form of fear.

How many Koreans are there? Let's say 48 million or so in SK. To say that "They" are a certain way... Well, I often feel that those types of generalizations are a bit much. Sure, we could look at anecdotal evidence to prove almost any theory, but does it hold up in the bigger picture?

Does Korea ban foreigners from entering the country? Does it allow foreigners to settle here? Can foreigners own property or businesses?

For me, as a "foreigner" walking down the street here each day, I'm guessing that the vast majority of Koreans aren't fazed by me...and definitely don't make any overt "fear" motion/expression towards me.

Even if I get one "OMG! There's a foreigner!!" per day, does that actually mean KOREANS think that way?

This thread isn't about you- it's about Ansan Station and if you ask Koreans you know they will probably have something negative to say about Ansan Station.

Using yourself as an example is a flawed test. Are you a 3D worker from a SE Asian country? Do you hang out around Ansan Station?

Besides, how do you consider yourself an "average" foreigner in Korea? You aren't a tourist, not a soldier, not a missionary, not a 3D worker, and not a teacher, plus you wear hanbok every day. Your experiences are not those of an "average" foreigner.

No problem at all. If you had read the thread and knew about Ansan Station and the feelings of Koreans about Ansan Station, you would understand the post and how it applies to the topic of the thread.

I resided in Ansan from 2000~2007.
Had a f----- awesome time .
I have also witnessed various activities , !!!!

I lived in Songpo Dong and in 2 Dong.

I would dare to say that YES Ansan is one of the most dangerous places in Korea!

No doubt about it .
