I wonder who the first foreigner was to imagine Korea as their own private Idaho?

Just to switch things up a bit, I think bluelake has some firsts under his belt. I did accidentally come across his Korean archery forum while looking it up online. Wink

Thanks for the plug, Zyzyfer Smile I'm sure most foreigners in Korea have been the first to do something. For example, many were the first in their families to come to Korea. However, not the case for me--my dad was here in September 1945 (US Navy), as his ship was helping to repatriate the Japanese back to Japan.

Regarding Korean (traditional) archery, I was not the first foreigner in Korea to try it out (I have an archery magazine from 1962 with an article by a US Army officer who took it up while stationed in the country). Probably, my first in regards to KTA is I was the first to popularize it around the world. I did have a probable first related to my two passions of KTA and Korean history--I was the first to return a war prize to Korea; in this case, it was a Korean horn bow that was captured by the French in 1866. I returned it back in 2002 (to the Korean Army Museum). Five years later, I helped in the return (on long-term loan--hopefully, it will become permanent) of a Korean flag; there's probably a first in there somewhere Wink

I do have the dubious distinction of having introduced pizza to bakeries in Gyeongju back in 1984... Long story.

His post was legit and keeping with the thread, so why crap on his accomplishment? I'm willing to bet you wouldn't dare belittle that to his face, and if you did I would certainly hope he KO'd you just for being a pansy that has nothing to add other than bashing on someone else.

what I should be afraid of him? LOL, I would say that to his face, cuz if he even laid one finger on me, I would have him arrested, sued, get him a criminal assault record, fined, and kicked out of the country. and while my black eye goes away in 2 or 3 days, his life will be screwed!

Still man, why be ostentatious about it? You're generally a bit more even keel than that.

Pathetic.

Hmm... how about for this guy...

...First foreigner to try and bait another foreigner into hitting him so he could milk the Korean blood money system as well as the locals do.

"Hey you! I'll insult you if I want to! I'm not afraid! You suck!" ...WHUMP!... "Waaaah! I'm suing."

What a guy.

not my intention at all, I said what I would do if someone knocked me out
hey, if you do nothing about it, good for you. but I wont just take being smacked by a professional boxer just because I told him my opinion.
if we all went around knocking each other out when we didn't agree with them we would be living in the middle ages wouldnt we now.
there are rules and laws to protect us from that. so I said.
if that happens to me I will use the law to protect myself for idiots who feel they have to knock other people out to feel manly.

Nobody's gonna think less of you for admitting you acted like an idiot. There's a time and place to stand down.

I have also been the first non-korean person to visit at least one rural village that I know of.

There were foreign boots on pretty much every inch of soil between Seoul and Busan during the war but you might have been the first foreigner in a particular village in a long, long while.

I've also had this distinction when I was driving cross country. I know for an absolute fact that I'm the first foreigner (and maybe the last) to enter untold dozens of restaurants and businesses.

Thanks, coralreefer, I appreciate it.

Just to counter what fosterman said, this is my professional boxing record:

And this is Justin's professional boxing record:
http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=386920&cat=boxer

They were professional fights, and we were paid as professionals.
And there's no way you can tell this "deer caught in the headlights" that he's not in a professional fight Smile :

And Justin's 10-round title fight (after he won the Rookie Championships)was one of the greatest fights I've ever seen in my life --- he was winning the fight, but got KO'd in the final round, with only 2 seconds left!

Anyway, man, the daily training was really tough, and the fights were too.
And thanks again, coralreefer.

I imagine it's nice to be undefeated. There is no blueprint to beat you. 6 have tried, none have succeeded. You're the cash cow of Korean boxing Laughing

I was the first white foriegner in my old country town. Before that, it was only gyopos. I got some guest of honor treatment from some and racist xenophobia with lots of (0(k blocking from many others. Was cool and irritating at the same time. But now my old country town has 10 foriegners I hear. When I went back for a visit, kids don't even "Weigookin!" me anymore.

Regardless of those arguments, a trained fighter can't hit you as his hands are considered weapons. He can get into some serious trouble much more so than a regular guy fighting on the street can. He can only hit you in self defence.
