| He was probably corrupted by working day in and day out alongside foreigners at his school. I'm waiting for the Board of Education to put out a circular telling Korean teachers to avoid all unnecessary contact with foreign teachers outside the classroom. |

Loophole doesn't exist for E-2 Korean Americans as well as F-4s working for public schools. As for hagwons, F-series of both Korean and non-Korean descent may or may not be subject to CBCs, depending on the hagwon.
The only loophole that needs to be closed is the hagwon loophole for F-series visas, both foreigners married to Koreans and overseas Koreans. This loophole has involved a couple of scuzzy people slipping through, from both groups. |

Isn't it reasonable to assume he got into this job in Korea because he had no priors? No priors means a criminal record check would not stop him from coming in. With that in mind what is the government and the schools going to do now, possibly go tooth and comb over past employment?
Also, if they want people who are not going to rob stores, then why not hire prospective teachers that are older? Older means more years to show your true colors and stupidity, and even if a person is that type, they are going to be less impulsive. But I don't think they would be honest with themselves about that. Korea is becoming more Thailandized it seems, 'Let's keep up the fa�ade that we like it's more important'. |

Seems like the ratio of cool ones to douchey ones here is pretty low. Or maybe the loud gangsta wannbe types just stand out more and we just don't see the cool ones.
I worked a job that had a few Korean-Americans WITH criminal records from back home. Not sure how they got jobs here or which visa they were on, although one of them had some kind of family connections that got him in the door.
I don't think management knew about his record, but it was ironic that WE all had to pass drug tests, yet he didn't, and he would brag about that. He was a spoiled rich kid from what the others said.
Makes sense that some might come back to the motherland to escape/avoid certain legal problems and just skate on in no questions asked, or have someone pulling strings for them.
Whatever the loopholes are, they should look into closing them so that nobody with criminal records can just skate on in. |
