This article is a joke right? It's actually claiming that not a single foreign English teacher caused a crime in Seoul in the last 5 years?
oh..no wait..
It's only talking about public school teachers, you know the tiny percentage of foreign english teachers, not all english teachers. you know like all those ones working at hagwons. Woops. Another Dave's reading comprehension failure.

This is not a crime rate for all native English teachers in Korea.

The OP bases his calculations on the number of public school teachers to obtain the crime rate for public school teacher. This rate is then compared to Koreans.

I don't see the reading comprehension failure.

Shouldn't the rate of foreign public school teachers be compared to the rate of Korean public school teachers as compared to ALL KOREANS?

If people are going to use ALL Koreans then they should use ALL foreigners (not just English teachers).

And he's only using a section of English teachers at that. Not the ones at universities or hakwons.

I agree my post certainly is missing some statistical quality. As for only using a section of teachers, I'm just replying to the data published, however, as the requirements for PS teachers are pretty much the same as for E2's in general (and thus Hagwon workers), it's a pretty fair comparison.

As for all foreigners... well the Korean Times didn't publish about all foreigners. When the government made HIV checks and Criminal record checks compulsory, they didn't apply it to all foreigners. How would including "all foreigners" make for a better comparison. Some Chinese-Korean butchers an innocent girl, doesn't really reflect on the English teaching community, A couple of Canadians caught smuggling drugs, does.

Gesh....that was totally uncalled for Dodge7.
world wide....more whites are in prisons than other races!
A college education does NOT equate "follow the rules either!"
Hundreds of thousands of college educated folks are in prisons!

White English teachers all have fake diploma, AIDS, and take advantage of innocent Korean women and kids. Didn't you know that?

Because the general population should be compared to the general population. (Koreans compared to foreigners).

If you are going to take the general (local) population of one country and compare it to a tiny subsection of the general population of foreigners...the final statistics are going to be massively skewed in one direction or another.

If you wanted to compare KOREAN teachers with FOREIGN teachers then that would make for a better comparison.
