Wait... What?! He asked a fairly simple question with no malice at all and your brain translated that as someone who seems mad?
I personally don't think you're a troll. I think your posts often contain valid points, but more often than not you lack the ability to address issues without revealing personal insecurities (you seem to need to validate your life choices and perceived happiness to yourself, which is then amplified when you use it to compare yourself with others).
This type of attitude will often bring out the worst in some people on here which, amongst other things, leads to derailed threads and more negative than positive as a result. For someone who has built his success through hard work and acquired a hot girl (well at least by your standards) one would think you'd have a more positive attitude towards how you interact with those who are less fortunate or simply don't have the same drive as you do here. Most of the successful people i know who started with nothing generally have a humble approach towards life and don't insult others in the manner in which i have seen you do on here. Without the cheap insults I imagine most people on here would have you down as one the funniest/more entertaining posters on here!
Im not sure how long you've been in Korea IPIC, but 5yrs ago Dave's was a goldmine for good advice, good banter and a place where people could even network through events and such.
Ps, I'm a psychologist - the first session is free... get in touch.
Pps, no I'm not but I do hope my dry British humour translates well as it was intended as a joke (the ps part, Im serious about the rest) so please don't think I'm mad. |

Translation: I actually read ALL of that but I'm emotionally torn between offering a seemingly witty/sarcastic/insulting reply to keep my reputation intact and acknowledging that you may have a point. Therefore my initial response is to pretend that I have no idea what's going on here.
This is a classic step 1 response, denial. But the good news is that you took the first step... it'll get better I assure you. Seriously, you don't have to live behind this online persona... no-one will judge for just being polite, clearly you are successful and as I already mentioned you offer many valid points in this forum often in a humourous manner.
So, on to step 2... try using your knowledge, humour and experience for good by offering ONE piece of sound advice WITHOUT being condescending or insulting (and if possible not involving your personal success)... start small, in any thread and let me know how it feels to help others with a positive attitude.
We should be friends, you get free social interaction lessons and in return, I'll steal your hot gf (I'm a model from London, who speaks Korean and has his own fashion company).
Ps, that last part was another joke... I'd give her back eventually.

I don't think this site is much more useless/useful than it has ever been since I've been here. Maybe it's all just perceptions?
A few years ago, c. 2009, there was an army of vile and nasty Korean apologists who would blanket threads, threaten people and take it to a whole new level. The Mods did nothing about it for months/years. I would say those days were way worse than it is now. I'm talking disgusting PMs, open threats of physical violence and swear words magically being allowed by these people yet being blocked by others.
In any event, I acknowledge that when I have free time at work (as with the last few weeks) I come here and stir the pot a bit with the usual characters. However, the reason the guys I'm talking about (who will remain nameless, but we all know who they are) are on every thread is because they do their best to shut down every discussion. I'd rather have trolls and lame-o's going on and on about stupid stuff than have 2-4 posters who get to shut down every conversation on this site, which apparently is their goal.
What I also think the problem is is that today's trolls are really, really lame. Trolls here in the past have been witty, funny, strange, performance artists. Now it's just lame "jokes" and talking about smoking hot girlfriends every post. It's a lot less entertaining. Anyone who's been here long enough, compare fromtheuk to IPIC. It's like comparing Louis CK to a kindergarten talent show. |

Blackcat, voicing an opinion that differs from yours is not "shutting down discussion." If you can't handle opposing views, and people disagreeing with you, then I'm sorry.
I never accuse you of attempting to shut down discussion. You have a right to your opinions and they stir the pot. I don't have personal issues and vendettas with other posters. I don't PM anyone to get personal, and I really do my best to adopt a "live and let live" attitude towards the arguments here. I like to argue, but I don't really see why things should be personal.
Frankly, I think the worst attempt to stifle discussion here in recent memory was the whole "You're a Korean/gyopo" bit that was being used to invalidate a person's points, ironically from supposedly "tolerant" posters, upset at racism and superficiality in Korean culture. |
