| You've got to be an idiot if you think the AVERAGE Korean makes that much money. The average Korean doesn't even make the salary of an average English teacher. There was published article in the Chosun Ilbo a year ago talking about how much the average Korean earns, someone find it. |

The AVERAGE Korean adult will make a bit more than what is written in the financial records. |

| The Average NET might make more money than the granny selling veggies on the street corner. |

I've been here a long time and I think that figure (4.7 mil) is suspect. I know how much my wife makes currently doing a job that requires a Masters and specialist knowledge and I know how much an ex GF used to make working in a bar. I know the Korean minimum wage is 5210 won compared to about 12,000 in the UK, which has an average wage of a million won less. There must be a hell of a lot of work going on in the black economy is all I can say. What are all these people doing on the side? maybe you can enlighten us woodennickels? |

I like how you're all kid sitting for 2 mills a month, even fighting for for 2.1 mills a month, but the average pet sitter is sitting there playing with a pomeranian and making 10 mills. |

I think salutbonjour effectively closed the thread with the pet sitter bit, but I'll play along.

I know someone working in fashion here who I would consider rather archetypical for "the average Korean" - basic undergrad degree in relevant field, a few years of experience, not stuck in that whole 880 generation (linked for general purposes) rut, and yes, I agree that the 4.7 million figure is suspect.
Posters on here sometimes get hooked on the idea that all of the office workers get huge kickbacks via year-end and holiday bonuses that double their salaries. Having worked for several companies of various sizes and known folks working in different businesses here, I feel comfortable saying that no, it is not the case across the board, and bonus-inflated salaries are the exception rather than the rule. |

mmmmm could be I'm living on the opposite side of town. Most of the people I'm acquainted with make 4.7 mill or more per month. |

Or maybe I don't want to.
I would think, or at least hope, with your wife's credentials, she is earning at least 4.7 mill per month. If she isn't, she is either working short hours or is doing something wrong. Or selling vegetables on the street. |

| I would say the average adult Korean salary easily hits 4.700.000 won per month. |
4.7 a month is what a mechanical engineer earns in Korea. Would you say that the average Korean earns as much as a mechanical engineer? |
