Another point - I've worked with so many people who clearly dislike teaching.
If you don't have a passion for teaching, then clearly you should not be allowed inside the classroom. That probably accounts for the majority of so called "teachers" inside and outside of Korea. |
Outside of Korea, some teachers wouldn't become teachers because they realized their BA is worthless and they want long vacations? Surely not? Ha ha. |

DO you have the instinct or the talent?
Schools always demand me.
(Our local ed office sends us to new schools every year.) |
That's unusual.
Most Korean workplaces are headed by narcissistic ajoshi dictators who eliminate anyone with talent.
They generally feel threatened by actual ability. Makes them look bad.
There's a reason korea has produced no ingenuity in 4000 years. Because anyone who rises above the others gets hammered back down. |

I think the requirements should be exactly equal, and no more, than the credentials I currently hold. I will then charge 500k per hour and teach them how to be a dick about having a useless piece of paper. |

I wonder how they describe you on their forum.

As a top notch educator. They were whipped into shape and knew not to dick around in my class. Some of the other foreign instructors on the other hand, were clowns/student ass kissers.
Luckily I worked at a uni where the admin kept out of everything. We could and did fail students and I never ever had one piece of interference from admin in my 6 years working at that uni. That was one of the main reasons I stayed there for so long. |

dont mean to flood this but im on my phone reading and typing.
so many good points in this thread. all i got is a BS and it was BS. I was the worst teacher in the world when i got here. Like weigookin74 it took me a while. Id like to think im in as much of demand as him but my phone aint ringin like it used to despite example lesson plans in class video and a mess of reference letters. |

My degree is in physics. How would a master degree in the same subject improve my teaching? |

No, in nearly all countries, it's the employing school that requires this or that qualification just same as with most other professions though a bachelors degree is required by a great many countries to get a work visa same as here.
Korea will not fix any problems nor improve anything by requiring a cert though the pay and benefits are high enough to require it compared to the world with ESL that mostly pays only about half or less with fewer benefits. I'd say researching team co-teaching and developing training methodology for both foreign and Korean co-teachers would be a better bet to fixing the problems and failures surrounding miscommunications, misunderstandings, saving face, embarassement, narcisism, and inferiority complex issues getting in the way of education and progress. |
