Now I think of it the loudest and most obnoxious Yanks (deal with it) I've came across tended to be from the east coast, with the southerners and west coasters being more laid back and not always speaking with an outside voice. Maybe that's a coincidence but it's just my own experience.

I haven't found Americans to be any more obnoxious and opinionated than people of other nationalities. There are tools all over the world.
Saying that, they are definitely the loudest and most talkative I have ever met. For a lot of Brits, being too open about your feelings and thoughts is a big no-no, whereas Americans don't seem to have that clause in their social contract.
I sat on a flight to Italy last summer, and behind me were two young Americans. They were not offensive in any way, but they simply could not shut the *beep* up. I kid you not, everyone in that section was eyeballing them as if to say 'give it a rest guys', but they yapped the most banal 'oh my god. Hilarious, dude' crap the entire 4 hour flight.
Americans - generally good people but I wish they came with a mute button sometimes.

I, an American, have been in a gazillion department meetings over my many years in Korea. I have found that regardless of nationality, they all, except for me, tend to be quite equal in how much the talk/butt in. In my case, I try to wait for a pause before saying something in order to be polite. Therefore, I have rarely ever said a thing at a meeting.
