Nothing ridiculous about my stance. Yes, mid-90s is when I was talking about.

The example shows how bribery--blood money--leads to corruption.

As does your example. You go to the police station, they size up the offender, decide he's too big to take on and advise you to take some hush money. And it most assuredly does apply to sex crimes. You don't think teachers or students who've sexually abused students pay them off to stay quiet about it?

I'll stand by my post.

Then you can stand by your ignorance. The government changed the law so that they can proceed on sex crimes without the victim's cooperation awhile ago. Meaning they can't withdraw the complaint if an agreement has been reached. it's sad how the ignorant are so cocksure, the rest of your drivel has about as much value. So yes, stand by your ignorance and wear it like the proud troll badge it is.

"If"--that's a hole big enough to drive a dump truck through.

Interesting how rather than answer my question you can only come up with insults.

All of these policies you keep referring to remind me of the government policies to weaken private education--ineffective.

Reading comprehension failure there?
Try reading it again slowly, obviously you struggle with advanced concepts.

Sex crimes are no longer personal crimes. A rich person can pay a victim all day, it doesn't matter. The police do not need the victim's consent any longer to prosecute. That if doesn't mean anything. I said that

If you were showing any evidence of intellectual ability you wouldn't be getting insulted. I may have to ask you the same question I had to ask someone else recently, can you prove that you actually attended an institute of higher learning, because it really doesn't look like it.

And it most certainly couldn't happen without the police knowing about it, right? Wrong.

You've gone ahead and left that hole right where it was.

That would really suck if you had more education than me and yet I keep schooling you. That would be a real blow to your pride, I'm guessing.

But if you pay me I won't tell anybody. See how that works?

That's different from any other country how? That is not a problem inherent to Korea's system at all. Rich people have been paying people to keep quiet about things as long as humans have had money. It's also not a requirement that the victim make the complaint. Anyone could make the complaint and the police could follow through, however the person having paid someone will have no bearing on the police charging them. Again, you're simply wrong. You claimed that sex crimes were part of the blood money system and they're not. All the attempts to try and wiggle out of it

Remember, your example involved going to the police station:
Quote:
You go to the police station, they size up the offender, decide he's too big to take on and advise you to take some hush money. And it most assuredly does apply to sex crimes.

Now you're trying to move the goalposts, another hallmark of the classic troll. You're wrong, you've been repeatedly wrong, you either lack a basic education or all ability for critical thought. No one is buying it.

Remember this was a discussion specific to Korea's "Blood money" system. Try to keep on point. Keep spinning your wheels if you want, but you're pretty transparent.

You're the one spinning her wheels. How many times have you used the other rich people use their money to get off so blood money is OK argument? Do we need to bring in your mother to tell you two wrongs don't make a right. She did teach you that, didn't she?

As for "system," that's rich. Pardon the pun. Tell me you believe that you still can't buy your way out of rape. Tell me that if the victim is paid before going to the police that the police are somehow going to get wind of it and go charge the perpetrator. And they're going to do that why?

"No one is buying it." Yet you bought it enough to answer, again and again. So how much are you willing to pay?

Considering how difficult it seems to be for you to understand, you'll need to come up with a pretty high number.

Just for giggles, I'd love to see atwood take the GRE or LSAT and see what he gets. I'd imagine some catastrophically low score because his reading comprehension, understanding of distinction, and ability to grasp someone's main point is, uhm, inconsistent at best.

His "if" citation was a prime example of really poor reading comprehension.

And back home, you'd go to your lawyer's/prosecutor's office, they'd size up the offender, decide he's too big to take on, and advise you to take some hush money, I'm sorry, "reach a negotiated out-of-court settlement", or tell you something like "a successful prosecution appears unlikely".

I have to wonder, are you a native english speaker? Because it doesn't seem likely.

"No one is buying it" means no one is believing what you're saying. It has nothing to do with people refuting your illogical and flat our wrong claims.

Quote:

These are two different scenarios.

It's quite apparent that you don't actually know how to properly process things at an adult level, but let's try again.

The blood money system is a system in Korea where the police encourage people involved in personal crimes to first attempt to come to an acceptable agreement before moving ahead with prosecution. No point in tying up the legal system if two people can work out their differences before hand. This only applies to a limited set of crimes designated as personal crimes and does not apply to sex crimes or crimes without a specific victim, crimes against public good, etc.

Hush money as you're putting is not a specific system and just something people do all around the world. Anyone anywhere can say to someone, hey before you call the cops how much money would it take for you to not call the cops?

This thread is about the former, not the latter. (that means first one and second one just in case you need to look those up)

You specifically addressed the first one with:

Quote:
You go to the police station, they size up the offender, decide he's too big to take on and advise you to take some hush money. And it most assuredly does apply to sex crimes.

and were completely wrong with your assertion that it applies to sex crimes.

Let me try to put this simply:

You have no idea what you're talking about and it is a good idea for you to just move along and wait for your next opportunity to troll because you failed here.

I've taken the GREs, and I'll bet you my score was higher than yours. And my score was raw--no Princeton Review, etc.

Back home you were a convenience store clerk, so you'll have to forgive me for ignoring your conjectures on how the U.S. legal system works.

Again with the people do it all over the world so it's alright argument. Absurd on its face and yet you continue with it. Who's the troll here?

You're trying to convince me that this one law regarding sex crimes, in a country where rule of law is as flexible as a slinky, is virtuously upheld. If you truly believe that, I've got a beautiful; bridge over the Han River that I'd love to sell you.

Personally, I'm not buying it.

As for your pathetic attempts at insulting me:
Sticks and stones may break my bones
But blood money makes it A-OK!

You brought it to the discussion. This is called "opening the door", someone who is apparently so knowledgeable about all things legal should know this.

This was a discussion about blood money, a somewhat unique system (compared to the countries most users come from), you decided to make it about hush money, an act that occurs in every single country on the planet including the ones everyone here comes from.

You couldn't stay on point, because you had none and whatever argument you were making was based on falsehoods and faulty logic.

You've now gone from "Sex crimes are personal crimes" to "it's not really enforced anyway". This is moving the goal posts.

You are, you always have been and the only person who can't see that is you. This is why you're insulted and continue to be insulted. You can't follow basic points, you can't read to save your life, you don't understand common idioms and phrases, and you can't see the little green wart on the end of your nose.

You're creating a differentiation that doesn't exist because only you believe blood money resides in a special legal category.

Someone rapes a woman and pays her off--they're paying for the assault and they're paying her not to go to the cops. Blood money or hush money? Blood money and hush money? You say tomaeto I say tomahto.

Your argument remains sophmoric.

You think that because someone doesn't agree with you they can't read. Who's the simple-minded one here? Try looking in your own mirror but better first visit your local optometrist to correct your lack of vision.

They are different, because Korea specifically has a set of crimes that cannot proceed without the expression permission of the victim. That's why the system of alternative justice exists. There is an absolute difference between someone saying "Here is $10000 don't tell the cops" and the cops saying "This is a personal crime, can you come to an agreement before we proceed?" If you can't see that you're a bigger idiot than I expected.

The second one is unique to here, and is what is being discussed, if you can't keep it on point because you can't actually make a point, that's no one's fault but yours.

"Alternative justice"--thanks for the laugh.

There's nothing unique about someone having to press charges for the police to investigate.

There is no "absolute" difference. It's been codified is all.

And yes, let's put justice into the hands of Korean police, the same folks who turn a blind eye to all kinds of illegal activity. That makes such good sense.

You really would do yourself a big favor by just saying you like the idea of tribal justice rather than trying to paint those opposed to it as ignorant.

But I dig the obstinacy.
