BTW I hope all those who were so strongly in favor of caning are not criticizing the teacher in this case. |
Caning an adult having found them guilty through judicial process is totally different from forcing a child to eat soap.

I have to say my man, I was a child once, and have been clipped when it was deserved, I don't feel I was abused.
Some of these kids today could do with a bloody good clip from their parents.
Now 'child abuse' is an entirely different kettle of fish, I suppose we need clear definitions of 'child abuse'. |
Here, here! |
They are both forms of corporal punishment so they are more similar than "totally different." As for the "found guilty" qualifier, the children were guilty of disobeying class rules; IMO a court isn't necessary to determine such an obvious infraction. |

Why was this national news? The teacher was just stupid, but she wasn't causing any real harm to the students. I certainly don't consider it a firing offence. Would this be national news if the teacher hadn't been a foreigner? I've seen much worse abuse of students in my years teaching here meted out by Korean teachers....and nothing was ever done about it. And it certainly didn't make the national news. |

Wow with that attitude why cant anyone see that she was just letting them enjoy the taste of it for things to come? Il tell you what, I saw a dog take a big dump on the side of the road, would you like some? You dont gotta eat it, you only gotta taste it.
Seriously what a train wreck of a person. I read on another site that the school was private and did its own hiring and that she was a south african woman.
EDIT: i saw that this story mentions her nationality and all as well. |
You're already abusing someone you don't even know, so what chance does your future spouse or children have?

Yes I don't understand discipline because I don't make children eat soap.
Are you that stupid or maybe youre SA and upset because she represented your people wrongly.
I understand discipline and the way she handled it was NOT discipline at all. Perhaps you should learn that? |
Obviously you were never disciplined. If you had been, then you wouldn't have become the noxious little twerp you're acting like now. |
Where was the abuse? Good lord youre a moron. And twerp? Wow how tough you are internet warrior. Please teach us all how to be a badass like you. Idiot. |

I think that type of punishment is more suitable for home. |
It's not suitable at home, either. |
You stay out of my home, I'll stay out of yours. |
Don't abuse children and the government will stay out of the home.
Of course, you don't abuse your children. |
My mom had me hold a bar of soap in my mouth for swearing.
I'd do the same for my daughter.
I don't view that as abuse. If you do - come get me. We'll get all zest-fully-clean |

If she did simple soap, I can understand. Liquid detergent, even if its organic and "safe" is understandably going to cause a harsh reaction, especially when coupled with some sort of orally eating some medication as the alternative. I think its meant to be lightly licked on the nails, not orally administered.
While I wouldn't do bar soap for simple swearing, but for offensive swearing I'd certainly give it strong consideration. I think its up to each parent, just like a belt or switch on the rear (and the rear only for those). I've had it done to me as well, the first time actually out of curiosity, after which my parents considered it an acceptable punishment oddly enough. Life goes on. |

Yeah, she should've used the belt. Much more effective. And it might not have caused such an uproar. |

Classic.
Abuse, denial, rounded off with a smilie for arrogance.

Ah yes... the staccato claim of innocence. The abuser is invariably unaware that their words or actions are abusive, that they cause others harm. They are the last to admit to having a problem.
I'm not trying to insult you. I'm trying to help you. You need therapy. |

That SA NET should not be teaching in Korea if this rubbishy soap 'discipline' was used regardless of whether they forced the kids to wash their mouths with it or gave the kids an option. |
This would not have happened if a qualified KET was present.
Why is nobody asking where was the KET?
It is the responsibility of the Korean teacher to be on hand at all times to assist or advise the NET.
Sounds like a lot of scapegoating the foreigner again. |

I'd love for there to be an interview with the saffer. |
How much do you want to bet that this SA 'teacher' is an SDA member?
No (religious/bigoted) offense, but 80-90% I've met are either practicing or dormant SDA members (and I'm good friends with some, so...)
The spark that started the incident was using Korean? In class? Say it isn't so!! |

Look man/woman, using big words doesnt make you correct in any of your argument. Also using a dictionary would work wonders for you. You keep trying to use ad hominem against me and its pretty pathetic man.
Just because you dont understand what discipline is (or abuse for that matter) doesnt mean the rest of us are as ignorant. But let me enlighten you so you can learn something, making a child eat or TASTE soap or nail polish remover in school is ABUSE. No mistake about that. I hope that you are not a educator because your view and opinion is misconscrued.
As far as your comments about "therapy" and "future spouse and children" go, oh the irony of that. But keep at it with your idiotic postings, they're quite humorous hence the SMILEY faces. |

Now carry on with the posting sans ad-hominem attacks, perfavore.
Grazie mille! |

That type of behavior is very odd. Isn't she supposed to be an English teacher? When I gave my kids things, they tasted good and were edible. |
