| Ok, throw in the black monkeys, red indian monkeys. All the varieties of human monkey you can think of, assume that. Then, everybody hug. Happy now? Great. |

To say the least.
In all fairness though there are times I feel like some exotic caged animal. The Koreans dont really know what to do with you, how to deal with you or where you rank. They expect you to show up, do anything and everything they tell you to do and to do it without knowing why or with any complaining.
Prime example: here I am in my elementary school, there are no classes, no books, no plans etc. So why am I here? To plan they tell me. Plan what I ask? For next year. What would you like me to plan? Nothing, just go to classroom. Why? You must follow contract!
I think I will be sick for two days this week and stay home and watch movies.
Koreans remind me of the stereotypical slack jawed yokel hillbilly of hollywoods creation.
Gawlee lookie there, itsa waygookin, be careful I heard they can explode if you git two close...heyuk heyuk. Oh my garsh what shud we do wif im?
Gawlee peoples will pay good money to come and looks at im/er lets put im in a pen and let the chil'un play wif it. |

geez louise you people are sensitive. i don't think the op meant anything at all offensive in his post. i suppose i interpereted it differently.
white: the clear color of preference among hakwon owners and parents.
monkey: an animal similar to, but not quite at the same level as, a human being. from the korean perspective, this is anyone without 5000 years of pure korean blood running through their veins.
white monkey: no matter where you came from and what kind of experience you have, or how good of a teacher you actually are, if you're white and entertaining, you'll do.
granted, it isn't always the case, but in the eyes of many korean parents of children who attend hakwons, we (those of us who are white anyway) are, in fact, white monkeys.
this is what i thought the op was trying, very simply and effectively, to convey. i aplogise if i am wrong and he is actually a jerk. but that's not the first impression i got. and now that i read his post again, it's still not the impression i get.
funny how this little beauty on another thread didn't catch any flak at all:

It seem like Koreans sometimes should only be in charge of no-brain work--like cleaning windows....forget something too sophisticated, like actual customer care.

to answer the op, yes, 2.0 is crap if they expect you to develop the curriculum as well as teach a regular schedule. not crap for the rest of the world, but certainly crap by korean standards. you can do better. move on. good luck.
