I've got to get a transcript for my MBA application. Amusingly, my university refuse to disclose anything other than my yearly class mark to anyone else.
Still, it's only 7 quid + 1 quid per additional copy. |

I got my uni transcripts in the sealed envelope sent to my recruiter because i don't have a permanent address at the moment.
He opened the official uni envelope which rendered my transripts useless. Thats how strict they are at the moment with the transcripts.
I ve got to get another copy of my transripts sent over in the official uni envelope- only allowed to be opened at the immigration office. Going to cost about 50,000 won and much more than that in added stress and hassle. |

Is it really that strict now?
I obtained transcripts from my university 3 years ago. At the time I asked if I could have my transcripts 'sealed'. I was then told, that my university (in England) didn't seal transcripts, and that it was the policy of the university not to seal transcripts.
Have any other Brits been in the same situation? |

Yes. It's strict. I'm going through the whole process right now. They won't take a visa application without a sealed transcript.
What the hell is your Uni talking about??? Why wouldn't they seal transcripts?? It's in their interest to do so. People could tamper with the grades and stuff if they don't seal them. |

Yes they really are that strict.
Last year i didn't need any transcripts to get my E2 visa but this time around i definately have to get the transcripts and they should be sealed in a college envelope.
I'm taking a chance. I'm getting a copy of my transcripts sent over with just a college envelope my college gave to my family if there was a problem the first time around. I hope that will be enough.
Fingers crossed. I'm not sure why they want the transcripts sealed... I hope having them in a college envelope will be ok.. |

| They took my photocopied diploma and emailed transcripts but I had both notarized at the embassy in Gwangamun. |

I lined up a job when I was in the States and I mailed a packet including my real diploma and color photocopies of my transcripts. The immigration office demanded real transcripts. Basically, I told my employer that it would take at least a week to get my transcript, almost a week to FedEx it to them in Korea, and another week for them to FedEx back the visa permission and for me to drive to the nearest consulate and get a visa.
I told them I really wanted to start ASAP and that I was considering offers from other schools. With this inspiration, they *somehow* persuaded the immigration office to approve my visa with only a copy of the transcript... but I was required to bring a real transcript with me and submit it as soon as I arrived. I think immigration is serious about transcripts.

I must add, that the University provided me with a cover letter stating that they are real transcripts, and provide a contact phone number and email address, to be used should anyone require verification.
This they provided, as they would not seal them.
I got my E2 visa extended for three months, on 22nd April and didn't have any problems. I'm just a little concerned as I wish to return to Korea later in the year. Maybe I should get my degree and transcripts notorized in London, before I plan to return to Korea. |

I went through these shenanigans a year ago before coming to Korea. As a Brit (went to Edinburgh Uni) it was pretty hard for me to get transcripts. My Uni does not provide official ones (nor copies of my degree - if you lose it, it's gone).
After plenty of phone calls and mucking about, I was sent a few photocopies of my transcipt - not the most official looking thing around.
I then took my these and photocopies of my degree, and had everything notarised by the London Chambre of commerce. (suppost to be 10quid a stamp but if your smile sweetly it's free) then sent all these to the Korean embassy to be re-notarised for 4 quid per sheet.
The result is pretty much the only solution for British educated people.
If you're sitting in Korea reading this though, and need transcripts... you're buggered I think. Damn Koreans... |
