| I have been offered a contract by the folks over at the English Village in Paju. Before I sign, I was hoping to get some feedback from GECF current or former teachers. Any information specific to Paju? |

I have applied but haven't sent the actual application form yet because I have no access to a scanner in the middle of China! They said it was okay, but they're ssssooooo slow getting back to you!
If this doesn't work out I sure hope I can find a job. I'm getting a bit depressed and cynical about discriminating Koreans who only want YANKS and aren't interested in AUSTRALIANS! I don't want to leave til January, so I have some leeway finding work, but I had no idea it would be THIS DIFFICULT |

Don't get stressed. They don't even begin thinking about December until November. If you are white, have a degree and breathe, you can and will get a decent job here. Maybe the pay will be around 2.0 - 2.3. I know that I would much rather work 20 - 26 hours for a little less $ and have some time to explore.
Not all the schools are horrors. Contact a few of the reputable recruiters and tell them what you want. Then, YOU talk with the departing teacher. Ask all the questions you can think of. Ask for pics of the housing, real amount of time to get to the school from housing, etc. Keep an eye on this board and you will see posted all the things you need to know.
If someone seems positive about their job consistantly, pm them with questions. Almost everyone here will respond in a positive way and will try to help you. None of us want horrible teachers here giving those of us consider this to be our careers a bad name.
If you have questions or want to hear my personal opinion feel free to pm. Remember there are some great schools with wonderful teachers, directors and precious kids.
Sorry this is so long guys. Wish I'd spent more time on this board before I came to korea. It would have made the transition much smoother. |
