Cheapskates, my eye. I just hate being treated like a rube down from the hills for a weekend in the big city every time I go to Itaewon. Hyuk, hyuk lookit all em tall buildings and aireeplanes! It's how much? Nine dollars for a Guinness? Well, ok Little Miss I-Used-To-Be-A-Juicy-Girl-but-now-I run-a-bar-and-rip-off-every-foreigner-I-see, I'll pay that! How many of these strange little green notes you want?

W23,000 for roast beef? You can feed a family of four for that much at a kalbi jip!

a kalbi jip! What decadence is this!!?
Vegetable kimbap is only 2,000 won a pop, maybe I'd stretch to dokkboki with boiled eggs in it if my mother was visiting for her 80th birthday, but anything else is like throwing your money down the drain!

[And take a ziplock back for any side dishes you don't finish.]

hahahah loved the juicy bar bit thats so true.. but in defence of 23.000 won roast beef...

outback staek house its 22-30.000 for there steaks..
la tavola and la cigale is about 15-30.000 , holy lee chow also average around 15.000. nasville charge 23.000 for pork chops..
gunter is not cheap either.. his mains range from 13000 upwards..
last I saw he was charging 9000 for a meat pie!
the restaurant business makes it money on food in korea!
its not like back home where people are ordering bottles of wine! or even worse BYO their own wine!!

I think SUJIS is alittle expensive for what it is.. but I mean only by a few thousand won.. but if they made it too cheap then it would have a reputation as a cheap place.. they are trying to match themselves with LA cigale!
3alley is simple food but gunter over changes for it.. WHY? becuase he can! becuase most of his punters have money! and the ones who sit there at the bar and order draft beer will not be ordering off the main menu everynight but ordering a toasted sandwhich which still sets you back 6000 won!

What time do they open in the mornings, and is beer served there during breakfast?

Umm, I really don't think they're --- well actually, yeah! Sure, they serve up the ... uhh ... suds during ...uhh... breakfast, Zyz! Why not! In fact....in fact, they've got these clever I.V. units on wheels, with big plastic pouches of Corona hanging down. So as we plough through that 7.30 Mess O' Waffles, we can suckle on the drip-feed, all hamster-like and contented. I know I will be. Then around noon, as the after-church ladies crowd starts waddling in, they'll switch us over to shandies or champagne. And without missing a beat. Wink

That's music to my ears. Usually the only time I find myself not eating at home for breakfast (bacon and eggs, bagels, or granola bars, no need to leave the hut) is when I've been pulling an all-nighter out on the town. Breakfast after a hard night of drinking, nay, biscuits and gravy with beer to wash it down after a simply terrorizing night of drinking, that's the stuff legends are made of right there.

But seriously, I ventured down into some joint that was actually open at Butt o'clock in the morning for breakfast and they weren't serving beer! I'm still drunk! That's sacriledge!

This is the funniest thing I've read in a while. It's funny 'cause it's true.

And 13,000 won for bacon and eggs is ridiculous. Full stop.

I ate there two nights ago and overall I thought it was really good.

Pros:

-Great people.
-My Roast Beef was great.
-Mashed potatoes great.
-Gravy great.
-My dish did not actually come with mashed potatoes but they were kind enough to include it for me. It was kind of funny. The Korean workers (natives) were at a loss at my request, but when they asked the chef he said no problem right off.
-One of those fancy salads and the dressing was perfect!

Cons:

-While decorated really well there was a 3 AM diner atmosphere hanging over it. Cannot really elaborate just felt that way (we sat inside).
-I would like to have seen a bigger menu. Then again, I really am a picky b*tch. Having choices on your sides instead of it being a set deal would be really nice.
-Bread on the table would have been a major plus.
-Breakfast looked rather expensive. I can see charging those prices during dinner time, but they really should charge less for it during actual breakfast/brunch time.

I hope the owner is reading this and this helps her out.

Okay, wasn't going to ask this, but since there are now three of you going on about it... Are you all talking specifically about this restaurant? And if so, how is it that you all know? (Don't answer that if it's going to get this thread deleted.) Or, are you all just generalising here about Itaewon restaurants & bars, and really, none of you know what the case is with this particular restaurant?

I'm not doubting what you're saying. I'm just hoping that you'll clarify exactly what you are (or aren't) saying.

I just heard about the place right here on CLG's thread, and don't know a thing about who owns or runs it. Because of the positive comments, I'm definitely going to give it a try. First chance I get. As for the prices... well, there will always be things that I'll watch my pennies over, however many or few I have to spend. But food, thank God, isn't one of them anymore. Within reason, of course. (I'd have to be forced at gunpoint to pay W20,000+VAT & Service for bibimbap at the Hilton.)

I like it, good menu, food you don't see often in Korea, and nice people working there. Here's the sunday roast

Sorry but it's not a real Sunday roast unless it's served with both mashed and roast potatos.

Slobber slobber.

Still can't wait to check it out though.
