That's really ridiculous! |
I think they've just cobbled together a bunch of old PCs to crunch data for the SETI project? So I guess it could be ridiculous depending on your view of that project, but you're right- they certainly do look ridiculous.
Check out the case mods gallery and the fossil mouse here:

It's amazing how the internet works to spread ever more obscure hobbies. Not that computer modding is so obscure but it just made me think.
If you liked making necklaces out of ping-pong balls there's probably somebody out there you could share this hobby with. Start a forum even!! |

Oh great... now I wonder how long it will be before some deranged backwoods farmer decides to stick a PC in a dead -- or gosh forbid, a living carcass of an animal.
We may have the first BORG cow computer on some farm in Nebraska already, complete with wires in its nose and a big fan blowing out of it's ass! |

Aha - I thought that was a sound canvas there. Good vintage piece...!
Here in SE Asia we have access to cheaper hardware than in Korea. Broadband isn't as fast and is way more expensive, but it's adequate for streaming video.
Two major issues regarding the tropical location are proper cooling - even with air conditioning the house is often 30~35c; and gecko lizard poop inside the computer casings.
All three computers are on a wireless LAN.

Here we go:
- Asus K8N-DL motherboard (dual socket)
- 2 X AMD Opteron64 3000 (one in each socket)
- 2 gigs RAM
- 120GB hdd, 2 X 80 GB hdd, 40 GB hdd in external case.
- DVD RW +-, CD/RW combo
- Radeon RX600 Pro-128PCIE video card
- left monitor: 17" CRT

Are you launching the shuttle with that thing?
When you hit the power button, lights will flicker all across the neighbourhood. |

I think The Beaver is trying to get enough computing power to recreate a childhood dream of his- if you try to build a woman with that thing, don't forget to put a bra on your head.
If it works feel free to cook me up a Liz Hurley... |
