Never ceases to amaze me how christians attract soooo much criticism and hatred. You'll be starting a lions arena for us all next. I mean, why not go harass some bhuddists or muslims instead?

Nah, I'm not going to argue with you. It's not worth it.

What is with the "Kim Jong Il says he's a Christian but he's really an evil person, I'm so confused" stuff?

HOLY SMOKE ON A STICK! I agree with Corpral.

here's my full honest to goodness view on religion:
Religion is a wonderful tool to get great things done. Build beautiful buildings, build civilizations, build moral people.

However, it's just a tool. It should be put away when it's not needed. And I dont think that any reasoning adults need it.

Anyone wishing to see the more "in-your-face" variety of Buddhism can also be referred to Sri Lanka, with a long history of communal violence between the Buddhist majority and smaller religious groups. As well, it seems to me that in most of the other places where it has become prevalent, Buddhism co-exists alongside other religious systems, such as Confucianism or Shintoism, which are considerably less "live and let live" in their approach to social organization. So, Buddhism gets this reputation for being all love and sunshine, when in fact the reality is that other religions in those countries pick up the slack by performing the thankless tasks that religions have traditionally been expected to do, ie. keep people in line and maintain a semblance of social cohesion.

Also, the warrior monks of Japan's Samurai were all buddhists.

And we all know the Shaolin Monks know how to kick ass.

Bang on man! Being a "Christian" for a Korea is more like being a Freemason. A well connected club to belong to.

Christian is the right club to belong to in Korea? Hah!
According to a recent issue of "Voice of the Martyrs"
magazine, the worst country on the face of the earth
for Christian persecution is Korea------by far, #1,
especially with the collapse of Soviet communism. As for
Kim Jong Il, The religion of that country is not Buddhism,
but "Juchae," which is state-controlled worship of the king.
Any other kind of worship and you'll be shot, burned on
a bonfire for carrying a Bible, or thrown into one of the many
prison camps, found by human rights groups to be larger
than Washington D.C. That's according to some Korean
women who escaped and lived to tell about it in congressional
hearings on human rights, and those statements were all over
MSNBC.com recently, making up half of the top ten news stories
in the world for a while.
"If you were of the world, the world would love its own;
but because you are not of the world, but I have chosen
you out of the world, therefore the world hates you."
"The servant is not greater than his master; if they hated me,
they'll hate you also; if they persecuted me, they will also
persecute you." -------- Jesus Christ, John 15
"Whoever says 'I know God,' and keeps not his commands
(like "Love God with all your heart and your neighbor as
yourself")... is a liar, and the truth is not in him." I Jn 2:4
Funny how Korea, North & South, has a reputation for being
the most foreigner-hating society on earth, and yet has the
biggest churches in the world in every major denomination,
one church alone with 750,000 members in Seoul.
Or as Christ used to say to the most religious people of his
time, "Isaiah was so right about all of you: with your mouth
you show great worship of God, and with your lips you proclaim
your faith, but your hearts are far from him, and your faith
is nothing but a dead system of rules and regulations." Is 29:13

Ah, Lethal Weapon, I'm pretty sure Voice of the Martyrs was referring to NORTH Korea, which, as you point out, is pretty much the worst place to be for any non-Juchians, Christian or otherwise. The person who said Christianity was the preferred club was almost certainly referring to South Korea, but, in keeping with the custom over here, just wrote "Korea".

your examples of anti christian activities, making korea the worst place to be a christian are from NORTH korea. Most people here when they talk of korea are refering to the ROK.

Nah, I'm not going to argue with you. You need to earn it first.

If "earn"is in your vocabulary, your Maritimer origins are in doubt.

Just a quick example of bhuddist "in your face " behavior: we were sat in the galbi jee last nite when an intrusive monotone monk with a drum poked his head in and started what could loosely be called "singing'. The manager in a resigned and obviously habitual way opened the till and gave him some cash to go away.
half an hour later i was in the bar nearby when Mr. monk called on this disreputable alcaholic establishment. the owner politely asked him to leave. he refused and started singing louder. She exasperatedly gave him some cash to dissapear.
Apparently its bad luck to turn away a monk empty handed, so the money-spinning rumour has it.
Can you imagine those hated christians doing the same thing? I don't think so.
Run forrest run: Why even bother wasting your obviously superior intellect on this chatboard- why not just read an encyclopaedia all day?
