In my experience boys and girls at elementary schools are all usually moderately well behaved. Of course there are exceptions.
However, when students reach middle school, mixed sex classes often require a lot more effort to control. Boys by themselves are usually ok. Girls only classes are a pleasure to teach.
The deciding factor as to whether a class is difficult or easy to teach is usually YOU !!! If you are a good teacher and have the students' well being at heart the majority will respond accordingly.
The presence of a Korean co-teacher is usually, but not always, beneficial. I remember one occasion when the Korean co-teacher was unable to control a particularly boisterous class. It took me ranting and raving (it was an act but they didn't know that) to regain control. I don't know who was more surprised - the students or the co-teacher. Anyway, word soon got around the school that you didn't fool around in my classes. After that there was no more trouble.
I also had a male co-teacher who was absolutely useless. I think his main problem was that his english was abysmal and he was terrified of loosing face. Fortunately I only taught with him one class a week.
Like I said before, it's up to YOU. Remember that saying. "You reap what you sow". |
